Try camping with your family this winter

This post is part of Indespension's Get Out There campaign. Take your family camping this winter time and enjoy nature!

Camping is not necessarily an activity you think of undertaking in winter. Most people associate camping with summer, not in the freezing weather that winter can bring. There is no reason why you shouldn’t enjoy camping in winter as a family. There are a few important things you need to consider before starting a trip.

1. Make sure you wrap up warm

Make sure that particularly your children wear a lot of layers of clothing and get a decent sleeping bag. It is important that they stay warm at all times. While good-quality sleeping bags are sometimes expensive, you can for example get them cheaper if you look into second hand options. Children grow up quickly and many people will need to buy new sleeping bags for their kids and sell their old sleeping bags online.

2. Explore

Going camping with children can be tricky. Make sure it doesn’t get boring. Read them stories by a fire or take them out in the wild, show them some animals or educate them about nature. You can also try mountain biking as a family. This is a great way to stay active and also to see some of the local wildlife and nature as well.

3. Take some games

Card games can be played anywhere. Playing games is a great activity as a family and will build lasting memories of quality time spent together. There are different games for any age so you will be spoilt for choice.

4. Read together

Reading a story around a fire is a lovely activity to do together. Reading often gets neglected in today’s busy world and your children will enjoy you reading a story to them or they could read a story to you depending on their age. You will know best what books your children prefer so make sure you stock up on them before you go on your family trip together.

Last but not least, take a camera on your trip take pictures of the activities you do. You and your children will enjoy looking at the pictures at a later time to remember your nice family camping trip.
