A Day in Galway: Cramming in the Best Bits

So, you have a day to make the most of all that Galway has to offer. You’ve booked in to the Travelodge in Galway and you need to try and cram as much as you can into the limited time that you have in the city, to make the journey worthwhile. What do you do? Here are some highlights that you should consider.

Have a Brew

Not just any brew, mind. Try a Galway Cream Tea at one of the many tea rooms in the city, to begin your day on the right footing. The Cupan Tae Tea Rooms come highly recommended, and there’s a tea menu to die for and looking at this picture I can see why!

Take a Stroll around a Museum

Head towards the Spanish Arch and you’ll find the Galway City Museum nearby. It may look modern and contemporary, but inside, there’s a whole host of fascinating exhibits and displays for you to admire.

Enjoy a festival

Plan your trip wisely and you can enjoy one of the many festivals that Galway is home to. Its festival programme is extensive, with the Galway Arts Festival being a particular favourite, attracting thousands upon thousands of people, from near and far, year after year.

Gaze at a Church

St. Nicholas’ Church is the largest medieval church in Ireland that is still used today and an architectural monument that is well worth seeing.

Grab a Pint

Is it possible to come to Ireland without enjoying a pint? Even if it is a swift half? There’s an abundance of establishments perfect for this, including Tigh Neachtain’s, which also has regular live music to entertain you, too.

Sea Kayak

Fancy something a little more adventurous and outdoorsy? Try your hand at sea-kayaking in Galway Bay and along the Corrib River.

Whatever you’re interested in, there are plenty of choices for your trip to Galway. Pack your day with as much as you can and you’ll return home knowing you’ve made the most of your short break in this fascinating city.
