Our #Afterschoolchefs Challenge

I am not very good in the kitchen, I wish I was a pro at whipping up wonderful home cooked meals but I just do not seem to have much time (or skill for that matter!).  When the boys get home from school we do not always have very long before we need to head back out, off to rugby, football or swimming.  There does not seem much time to dedicate to filling hungry tummies.  We need something that’s quick and easy, but still appealing for the boys.  If it’s not to their taste they deliberate over their meal for what feels like hours!!!

I was excited to be involved in the #Afterschoolchefs Challenge with Birds Eye.  I was seriously impressed that £20 worth of vouchers used in Iceland netted me this much product!

It’s handy for parents food shopping on a budget, it’s a relief knowing you can afford to feed your family without breaking the bank.

Our freezer usually has a generous provision of their products as a rule anyway.  They are convenient and appetising, we just bung it in the oven and viola a short time later my boys are sitting down to a tasty serving of fish fingers, chicken burgers, chicken pie or fish fillets.  Meals I know they love and will happily eat.  I have found they are more open to experimenting with food if they are involved in the preparation.  You can have them filling pans of water, fetching items, stirring vegetables, anything to feel valued in the kitchen.  Eldest was more open to eating his dinner when he had contributed to making it, plus an extra pair of hands really makes a difference getting things done in time.

We tried to bring some fun into the meal too!  But our face did not quite work out right, as the mouth appears to be drooling...

Otherwise mealtimes can be super stressful.  Youngest is very talented at discreetly emptying some of his plate onto the floor if it’s not to his liking… now we have a puppy I am sure they will try and sneak some food that way!  But generally with Birds Eye they tend to clear their plates quite nicely, without having to get up to any mischievous tricks!

I want mealtimes to be a pleasant experience for us all and fortunately having had a full menu of Birds Eye products one week we seemed to achieve that.
