Sadly we have had more rainy days than I would have expected this summer holiday but fortunately Drumond Park keep sending me wonderful games to review and keep my boys occupied.
The latest one Sshh! Don’t Wake Dad! was good fun, although I did keep getting sent back to the starting point! I thought I had figured out how to creep forward because I waited to click the clock when dad sounded deep asleep and for a while it seemed to work well for me but then BAM he is awake again and I reluctantly made my way to the start.
Mind you can get “slippers” and make it to the lead quickly enough if your lucky with the spinner, eldest did well like this and managed to win in the end because hubbie was so close to the finish and he got to go one step ahead of him! Although I do think it’s a bit tricky that once you reach the end you still have to press the clock one last time, so potentially you can be sent back to start all over again! It’s frustrating but still entertaining because you’re all on the edge of your seats…
I like that it’s not over complicated, its lots of fun but still simple enough for younger children to join in. Also it’s a game with constant suspense, will dad wake up or will you manage to get ever closer to the tempting chocolate cake?!? Depending on the obstacle you land on (door closing, pans clattering, standing on the cats tail) you are giving a certain number of times you have to press the alarm clock. Fortunately if you have a card for the place you land on you can stop safely without having to touch the alarm at all!
If dad wakes on your turn you go straight back to the beginning but if you happen to be on either of the two places across his bed when he wakes you also have to return to the start, so it’s a game that anyone could win at any time really. You think your doing well and dad is sleeping peacefully, you have your eyes on the cake and then he’s awake and your sent back to bed!!! I am just hoping my boys do not get any ideas to play a real sneaking downstairs game to pinch food… although it would not be dad waking up, it would be ME!
I have a copy the exhilarating game Sshh! Don’t Wake Dad! to giveaway if you would like to enter please fill out the form below by the 3rd of September.
