It’s getting very cold and we are definitely starting to feel the chill. It’s time to think about wholesome inviting food that will comfort us through the long dark winter months, plenty of tasty soups and stews to fortify us and warm our bellies.
I was excited with the delivery of my new cookbook as it had lots of recipes that make vegetables sound exciting! Plus rather helpfully the recipes aim to be quick and simple so easy enough for those always in a mad rush (getting children from various playdates and school activities) to squeeze in the time to make them.
The Riverford Companion autumn and winter cooking with a veg box compliments those that already use Riverford for the delivery of their seasonal organic veg. They wanted to make cooking with their veg boxes a pleasurable experience. It’s certainly easy enough to navigate around the cookbook it is sectioned into recipes concerning a particular vegetable and also comes with lots of useful guidance about how to prep and store each one. I think it gives you the confidence to experiment with vegetables you might be unfamiliar with using, for us that would be the pumpkins, which we only ever buy as Halloween decorations!
The roast potatoes with lemon, rosemary and thyme look amazing!
I might just have to try my hand at a few of the recipes and then impress everyone with my newfound cooking knowledge. The recipes are broken down well and very clear so even a novice cook like myself should be able to manage them. I like the fact they offer variations at the bottom so you can alter the end result slightly if you wanted. I think my mum will wonder what’s going on if I presented her with one of the many delicious recipes!
At the back of the recipe book you have a section of useful basics, all the things you need to know about making soups, stock, risottos and dressings. The book is available to buy for £12.99 from their website, it would make a wonderful gift for the family foodie, bound to inspire them to incorporate different vegetables in their meals. It really is a good price for an attractive hardback book with very tempting pictures, prepare for your mouth to water! The hardest part for me is deciding which recipe to attempt first, I want to get cracking straight away.
It such a shame Riverford do not deliver their recipe boxes to my area, please do check before entering the competition, I would hate for you to be disappointed if you did win. But the good news is they do hope to keep on expanding so I am sure they will get round everyone one day! Much easier than having to head to the shops, shopping with children is an experience (to put it politely!)… So if you can avoid it by ordering recipes boxes then all the better!
If you would like to enter the competition to win a Recipe Box (worth £39.95) then please fill out the form below by the 15th of December.
