A better start to the day with Cheerios

Forty is creeping closer (as much as I want to hide my head in the sand and pretend it isn’t!) and I am starting to think its time to take my health more seriously.  I was very pleased to be sent the new Cheerios Oat Crisp® to review as let’s be honest my diet could be improved considerably - starting with the most important meal of the day, breakfast…

It’s easy to get stuck in a bad habit, skipping your own breakfast in the rush to get the kids sorted in the morning and off to school quick smart.  Then only realising much later in the day when your tummy growls its disgust at you for denying it!!!  Or perhaps you just grab something on the way out the door!  But some of those convenience grab and go “breakfast” items have little nutritional content and are instead full of sugar and fat.

It’s time to squeeze in a proper breakfast and fortunately Cheerio’s Oat Crisp® turned out to be very tasty AND good for me.  Well worth squeezing into your schedule regardless of how manic your mornings are.  The combination of crunchy oat flakes and crisp cheerios are very moreish whether you go for the original Oat Crisp or the Cinnamon version.

I do prefer the Cinnamon Oat Crisp overall as it placated by sweet tooth whilst reassuring me with knowledge that it was helping reduce cholesterol for a healthier heart!  Anyone who knows me will realise that’s very important as I do have a habit of eating ALL the wrong kind of food, if I could live on cake alone I probably would… but I am starting to put more thought into the choices I make when it comes to mealtimes.


To complete your nutritious breakfast you should have a glass of water and a piece of fresh fruit to accompany your cereal (with semi-skimmed milk!).  I generally remember to have the glass of water because I read somewhere about it kick-starting your metabolism in the morning so I felt it was a step in the right direction.  But now I know how much better a cereal like Cheerios Oat Crisp is for me I will definitely incorporate it into my breakfast routine, I will just have to move a bit quicker in the mornings!  My only problem is that the boys also love this cereal too, so we will be fighting over the box!!!
