The boon. Mobile Payment App Christmas Shopping Challenge

I was only too pleased to give boon. the mobile payment app a try to take part in a Christmas shopping challenge.  We went with the “Host With The Most” option as we enjoy socialising and spending quality time with family and friends at Christmas.

If I am completely honest I am not always the quickest to pick up new technology so I was a little nervous (but excited too) to see how it would work.  boon. firstly credited the app with £100 for those Christmas party essentials.  Then we headed off to the supermarket to get shopping!  We then found out this was our supermarkets first experience of mobile payments, so it was an education for us both.

We do live in the back of beyond though so things take a little longer to filter through… but fortunately they did accept payments by Mastercard contactless so we were sorted and we left with our bags filled with Christmas goodies.  It was all VERY simple to use boon. just be aware that some shops only let you spend £30 per transaction.  I liked how it’s a much quicker payment method than trying to count out the change in my wallet AND it seemed more secure than other contactless payments as you had to have the thumbprint your mobile phone is already set up with to confirm the payment.

So what did we buy:

Santa Selfie Bread biscuits!  Fun for photographs and a tasty treat afterwards.

A giant Christmas cracker, because its like nothing the boys had ever seen before, plus it had a pop up frame and some Christmas photo props for all those festive pictures.

Then it was the all important Christmas nibbles and mulled wine!

We had a silly Christmas game to play.  Everyone had Christmas hats to wear to feel festive and then Who Am I? glasses to wear.  You had to guess what was written on your glasses.   By this point we had enjoyed rather too many mulled wines so the photo's went a bit too blurry but the room was filled with laughter!

boon. currently runs on iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and later.  It's great to have been part of the future, I have a feeling now with smartphones so sophisticated everyone will be making payments like this soon.  Plus it means less to carry!  Who needs a wallet full of cash and cards when your smartphone can do everything you need.  I will definitely be using boon. again.

boon. have a rather fabulous Secret Santa competition running on their facebook page at the moment, so do head over there and have a look before it ends on the 23rd of December.  Every month boon. also celebrates your charity shop purchases, use the hashtag #boonforcharity and you have a chance of winning £100.  I really like that boon. encourages us to buy from charity shops in this way, your getting the purchases you need but also doing a little good in the process.

  1. This is the thing with bloggers - as we get to learn about the technology before most of the population, the stores we try to use it in haven't done it before! I've had this too:-) Anyway, this sounds like a very useful app.

  2. What a great idea, I have never heard of it (I am always a little bit behind the times with technology too) but I love the idea of it.

  3. I think it sounds really interesting, espeically when more stores understand it. Sometimes being an early adopter can be a challenge
