I can’t believe the summer holidays are coming to an
end. It’s with mixed feelings I
approach the final week, we have had some wonderful moments, a few meltdowns
and tantrums just to keep things interesting (and mummy rocking in the corner!)
and a chance to spend lots of quality time together making memories with
friends and family alike.
The boys have tried Quad Biking for the first time, they
were naturals me on the other hand I was petrified from the word go. Not that I showed them anyway, I do not want
them to inherit my fears and worries.

My eldest was managing to keep up with the adults and teenagers he was
so good on there. I on the other hand
was relegated to the youngster group!
A huge proud moment was youngest finally making to get to
grips with riding his bike! He has been
steadfastly refusing to try for ages, the size of his bike will give you some
clue of how long we are been trying to encourage him!

All his friends (and even much younger siblings!) have managed
and I wanted him to have the same confidence as them with a bike. Fortunately before the summer was out he has
taken an interest and is progressing well now.
He is refusing help and pushing himself off and we are only in day
three, so going well. He is getting
better with his balance and uses the brakes now to avoid crashing into walls!!!
We have not been able to do everything we planned, but we
have done enough for the boys to go back full of exciting stories about their
holidays. It’s not about filling every
moment of their days, but giving them some time every day to listen to them, to
see what they have to say about things and to do something they want (although
possibly not too much screen time!!!).
I have still continued with reading and learning books over the holiday
just to try and keep some of their knowledge from school fresh, this does not
impress them at all… between my screen time limits and my learning books I
think the pair get royally fed up with me at times!!!
We have finally bought a proper BBQ so hopefully we will be
blessed with more sunshine for more el fresco dining! It’s funny sometimes when you get something nice and new you feel
like a character in The Sims upgrading your life, so I want to make the most of
it and sit outside of an evening with a glass of wine and a tasty kebab. I still want a swinging chair but everything
in its own time, I need to learn not to go in gung ho spending lots to fast
track the things I want!

But my most favourite parts of the holiday have been
the simplest, family, a good board game and lots of cups of tea and biscuits! I love that the boys have a close bond with
their grandparents and get to spend time with them all.
