The Let’s Cookalong Launch #EatHappyProject

I really enjoy encouraging my
boys to help out in the kitchen so when I had the opportunity to get involved
with the Let’s Cookalong launch I gladly said yes, especially when I heard we
were allocated the Let’s
Bake theme. Any excuse for more
cake in this household!!!

I think cooking is a really handy skill to learn but its
more than that I think its also important to consider how healthy what you make
really is! Thankfully the Let’s
Cookalong videos provide all the information you need to produce decent
wholesome meals and snacks for your family.

We had Blueberry
and Banana Loaf and Chocolate
Surprise Cupcakes (with hidden beetroot!) on the agenda so it was a useful
way to get the boys eating more fruit and vegetables whilst still enjoying
cake. Eldest turned his nose in the air
when he added the beetroot and made a disgusted face but after all his efforts
baking he braved a mouthful (and then went on to finish the cupcake and eat one
more!), so it was a wonderful way to get him sampling foods he might not
normally.

Well even with hidden #beetroot these went down a treat with the boys! #baking #eathappyproject x

They are not as sweet as
cakes we have made before but it did not stop the boys from really liking
them. It would do us good to have less
sugar anyway and rely on the natural sweetness of fruit.

All the steps in the video are
easy to follow and explained in detail, at the beginning you are introduced to
all the ingredients and equipment so you can have what you need to hand. The content comes across very appealingly;
my two found it much easier to digest the video than follow a written recipe
book.

The boys had one baking project
each and you could see afterwards how confident and proud they felt after
tasting the finished goods! I think we
will be definitely be trying out the other Let’s Cookalong recipes (Let’s Cook
in India, Let’s BBQ, Let’s Cook in Morocco, Let’s Cook in Italy and Let’s
Picnic) just because the boys have had so much fun this time.

I have included the videos for you to try at home too. They really are a fool proof way to attempt cooking with children.

The vivid colour of the mixture when you add the beetroot is worth trying the recipe alone!

New videos are being added all the time, so do keep checking back. This latest one helps encourage your children to make bruschetta, I love the strong flavours of the tomato, olive oil basil and garlic so will definitely be getting the boys to try this particular recipe.
