There is quite a debate about whether online homeschooling or regular schooling is better. A lot of the arguments for either side are being made by parents. The opinions of the students are often left out. Students seem as divided as the parents, but overall, it seems as though there are many more reasons they prefer homeschooling.
One big reason students prefer online homeschooling is that the schedule is much more flexible. With regular school, they have to adhere to a strict schedule every day. Students often have to be up quite early, especially when in high school, meaning their sleep is suffering. This can affect how well they perform. Homeschooling lets them sleep a little later, which can make all the difference.
Students sometimes have other issues that might conflict with a rigid school schedule. Perhaps they have a family member who requires extra help during the day. Or the student comes down with an illness themselves that prohibits them from attending school. Online homeschooling gives these students the chance to receive an education while they take care of their relative or themselves at the same time.
Not everyone learns at the same rate. ELearning classes allow students to work at their own pace. They don’t have to worry about trying to keep up with the rest of their classmates. On the other hand, if a student is particularly advanced, he or she can work ahead, rather than losing motivation. Either way, eLearning lets students work on weak points or enhance their strengths.
Ease of Access to Help
When students need help in regular school, they often have to wait until after school is over. Even then, the teacher’s time is limited. Or, if a tutor is needed, schedules can often conflict or the tutor may be too far away. With homeschooling, students always have access to an educator, their parents. Or, with a program like FutureSchool, students can contact an online tutor no matter what time of day it is. There is also no time limit.
Students are just as divided as parents when it comes to homeschooling. There are many arguments saying that regular school is the best option, but in this new age, with all the technological advances, it seems as though the preference is strongly becoming online homeschooling.
