We were sent Flags of the World by Tactic.  I was eager for my eldest to try such an educational game.  He heads off to secondary school in September, so I think this was a good one to add to our collection.  Helping him brush up on his geography skills in preparation for new lessons there.  He impressed me being able to identify so many flags!

I Need To Improve My Knowledge

My husband and I scored hardly any points, whilst he did an incredible job.  It has made me want to try and memorize more flags, partly so I stand a better chance next time but also, so I feel more knowledgeable in general.

If you manage to correctly identify the flag you get two extra scoring cards.  These need to be placed in the correct continent to help you win the game!  Just gaining cards isn’t enough, they need to be in the right continent to count and award you points.

You have a bit of flexibility when you play you can choose which continents you want to focus on and only add those flag cards to the deck.  But I think it’s a good idea as you gain confidence to keep adding more continents, so you can learn to recognize more flags and really challenge yourself.

You Get Questions Too

If you are completely stuck, you do have the luxury of two questions to try and guide you!  Although most of the time I was just as clueless after the questions as I was with the flag!  I do like this element of the game though.  It means you have the option to learn so much more.

You will learn what the flag looks like but also things like what the country might be well known for or where its located.  Apparently, Thailand is the world’s largest exporter of rice and Brazil is the largest coffee producer!  Furthermore, each card includes the population and surface area, which is quite interesting.  My eldest was surprised how densely populated some countries are.

The game is pitched for children 8+.  We played as a family of three as my youngest was busy doing something else.  However, I do like that up to six can play as we don’t have many games that include so many players.  Another big plus is that set up was simple, it doesn’t take long to get started.
