When it comes to planning a child’s birthday party there is a lot to think about. But it’s always an exciting time ordering everything. So, don’t get stressed out just get yourself organised! I will also give you a few pointers here, I have hosted my fair share of parties over the years. Where To Start
If you are planning a party firstly pick the theme. This is usually quite an easy first job as children tend to be hooked on something in particular so just run with that theme. If your child isn’t into a character then dinosaurs, football or a space theme are all great options.

In the past I am the first to admit I have got a little carried away! Although there are only a few years of parties so naturally I want to make the most of them. As children get older, they seem to favour sleepovers or a day out instead. So, embrace those parties. Enjoy picking out the party bag contents and narrowing down what themed plates you will use! I promise you will miss those days when they end, childhood is fleeting. But even considering that you do need to set a budget and try to stick at it.
You can get good deals online like the party pack bundles which work out at a discounted prize over buying each product separately. Don’t get caught up in a game of one-upmanship with other parents, your child can enjoy an amazing party without spending a fortune.
How Many To Invite
I didn’t realize there was a saying about your child’s age equals the number of guests to invite. But whatever number you settle on make sure you have enough room. Especially when children are younger as parents are most likely to stay too. Remember some people might not come so don’t keep your list too small.
Ordering Party Supplies
Make sure you cover all the essentials. Candles for the cake, themed partywear, party bag fillers and decorations. Hiring a party entertainer can be expensive so if you want to take matters into your own hands see what else you can order to keep the kids entertained. You can pick up a poster, a blindfold and stickers in most themes for a version of pin the tail on the donkey and add some party bingo sheets from Party Bags and Supplies.
If you don’t fancy sorting the entertainment like that Zoo Lab animal experience was something my son enjoyed when he was six.
Decide on the food
You can find lots of lovely party food recipes online to make the party that bit more special. Why settle for triangle sandwiches when you can get cutters in all different shapes. Keeping with the gamer theme I mentioned mine would like I have spotted a PS4 console cutter that would be perfect!

Try and make what you can the day before, if someone offers their help take it
Get organised. Lists will be your best friend when planning a party. Start with a logical list of the key things to be done – from finding and booking a venue to catering, entertainment and deciding on a theme. From that, you can break down each element into further steps to be taken.
Have a todo list and use different color ink red for top priority green for when you’ve got them
Write lists and do as much as you can in advance
Plan ahead. Consider SWOT analysis. Strenghths:- Do you know someone who is a good party planner, or even a great party planner. They may assist, or even just provide you with some ideas, themes etc. Weaknesses :- Consider own weaknesses, and others. This information can be helpful when planning. As know what could have a negative impact on planning / event, etc :- Thus avoid. Opportunities, this could be assistance from reliable family / friends, loan of items such as table / chairs / crockery, etc. Threats which could be timescale, finances, insufficient space, etc.
By making use of SWOT analysis :- Can help with overall plans and influence outcome /s.
Make sure the little ones go to the toilet regularly.
Have a go to party clean up pack, black sacks, wet wipes, kitchen towel and if you are having a party out of your home allocate jobs to friends/family that are attending

I never have them at my house, it’s not big enough for us let alone a load of other people!! We always hold parties in my Mum’s conservatory and we keep numbers to a minimum so it’s easier to control.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help! I always rope my sisters and Mum in to help me out with parties and I in turn help them out. Many hands make light work x

I always plan ahead and ensure that on the day of the party I have plenty of time to get all the last minute jobs done. When doing childrens parties I always cater for unexpected guests and siblings

We have a list and work through it. Numbers are kept low and we do glitter tattoos and nails plus traditional party games which the kids love. Food is very basic some sandwiches, crisps, chocolate biscuits, fruit and veggie sticks and then a pack of haribo and slice of cake in the goody bag. Parents are expected to stay and we have it for a set time.

We always have plenty of games with small prizes so there is one for everyone. There is always a big list to which we all ideas all the time.
Make sure you have sweets suitable for any vegetarian or halal guests. It’s something that’s easy to overlook and really upsetting for a child to have things in their party bag that they aren’t allowed to eat.
I agree prep is key don’t leave it until last minute as you can almost always guarantee the things you need…. You can’t get anywhere!

Really handy reading all of these tips, my tip would be when organising parties for older members of the family, to still do party bags for the children to have early on. Include some cheap toys or games to keep them entertained through the party.
