The Best Shoes For the Theme Parks

We love theme parks and cover a fair distance by foot during each visit.  Our first trip to Orlando saw us walk 130 miles in total during our holiday.  Which is a fair bit considering not every day was a theme park day!  When we were in the theme parks, we must have averaged 12-15 miles each day!  Given how active you will be its important to look at getting the best shoes for the theme parks.  You want comfortable shoes or sandals, so you don’t end up with tender feet and blisters!

I don’t think anything prepares you for the size of the theme parks in America.  So, making sure you sort out your footwear will make the days on your feet more enjoyable.  Theme park tickers are expensive, so you need to maximise the time spent at the parks.  You could easily be on your feet from 8am to 10pm.  I tend to be of a go, go, go attitude at theme parks.  I need the best shoes possible as I don’t like slowing down and wasting any precious time.  I have a long list of rides and shows to tick off.

We didn’t track how far we walked during our second trip to Orlando.  When we go back this year, I better make a note to see how far we walk.  Least with all those steps I am getting in, I don’t feel guilty stocking up on American sized portions!

No Laces

Laces take time to tie, time we wouldn’t be fitting in rides.    Getting trainers without laces was a priority on our second trip to Orlando.  You might wonder just how much of a time saver that could possibly be? Let’s just say with kids it can make a big difference!  Our boy’s laces would always end up untied and we would be waiting ages for them to tie them up again.

Supportive Shoe

We are fans of Skechers, I was having a look at the Spartoo website to pick out my next pair.  They are my go-to brand for the theme parks because they are so lightweight and have responsive cushioning.  Skechers Go Walk have been designed for walking comfort so you can’t go wrong with them when clocking up the miles at the parks taking all those amazing sights, like this incredible hippo at Busch Gardens.

Sandals

Birkenstock is a great option is you want a decent pair of sandals.  They have a firm arch support for comfort on long walks.  The cork foot bed is pliable and molds to your feet with wear.

Stay Away From Flip Flops

I preferred sandals for the rides.  Flip flops can be tricky as you don’t want shoes that potentially come off mid-ride!  I would be desperately clenching my toes to hang onto my flip flop as we whizzed around the fastest ride tracks.  Although they do have their uses on the water rides when you end up getting soaked!  It might be worth chucking some in a rucksack for those rides.

Weather

The weather can play a big part when choosing the best shoes for the theme parks.  We found that it can rain a fair bit in Orlando and trainers can soon get soggy.  Unfortunately, they can take a long time to dry out!  Some park theme enthusiasts recommend Crocs to avoid the inevitable smelly trainer problem in bad weather.  But they are not my footwear of choice.  Instead I was using the hotel hairdryer to try and salvage my trainers!
