I briefly mentioned in my last post about writing things we would like to do after lockdown and keeping them in a jar. One of the things we seem to be missing the most is travelling. Sadly, some of our holidays have already been cancelled or we are waiting for them to be rearranged. Frankly, who knows when that will happen… it does get a little disheartening thinking about it. But future travel plans give us hopes and dreams to focus on instead.

Craving Freedom

Also, it has made me realize I would like to have more flexibility over holidays when this is over. I want to visit ALL our friends and family. Something like this makes you appreciated them even more. But as they are dotted all around the UK, I could be swayed to buy a motorhome of our very own just so we had more freedom with our travel plans. Maybe take a month off and get round the whole of the UK!

Making Memories

After being cooped up for so long I just want us to get out on the open road and start to explore. Our world has been closing in of late. A colleague of my husband’s has her own motorhome and she is always off on adventures in it. Although I would not jump in blindly, I think it is sensible to first try motorhome hire to see if it really is for us. Buying your own motorhome is quite a big investment after all.

We did have a habit of jetting off to Florida, but I think I will be reluctant to go abroad until we have a better handle on this virus. With what we used to spend to go abroad we could probably afford the monthly payments on a motorhome. Doing this would give us all those lovely memories, looking at the stars, being able to toast marshmallows and playing board games whilst listening to the dull thud of rain on the roof feeling safe and warm inside.

Saving Money

A motorhome would save on the cost of expensive hotels and B&B’s. I am not a natural camper so would ALWAYS prefer the facilities a motorhome offers. It is worth bearing in mind you will have site costs for parking up your motorhome. Although Scotland offers more flexibility in this regard, as you can wild camp in unenclosed lands thanks to the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. Scotland was one of the places I added to the jar. We have not been there as a family yet, so this news sounds very promising indeed! You can also go wild camping in the lake district, that is another beautiful part of the world.

Our Dog Could Join Us

My dad always grumbles that he must take care of our dog when we go off on holiday! But with a motorhome, she could come along with us.
