How To Support Your Child’s Education During Lockdown
A decent education is so important for our children, it helps them grow and develop. So, it’s only natural you want to do everything you can to support your child’s education during lockdown. It has been such a worrying time in terms of our children’s education. Parents are concerned about the long term impact of lost time in the classroom on their child’s attainment.
Schools are trying their best to adapt to online work without having had much notice. But the provision for remote learning varies dramatically from school to school.
Finding It Hard To Adjust
Teachers have said they feel out of their comfort zones moving to virtual classrooms. Many are trying to adjust to the change as quickly as possible, getting the hang of new technology and a very different method of teaching. If your school has been slower to adjust to the changes, it is good that there are other options out there to continue to advance your child’s education. We have been using online resources to supplement my eldest son’s schooling.
Sites such as BBC Bitesize and Seneca offer lots of free resources to support your child’s education during lockdown. As for health and fitness don’t forget you can still do P.E. workouts with Joe on his YouTube channel.
Consider Getting A Tutor

Another option is booking lessons with a one to one tutor through a site like Tutorful. School Teachers struggle to see how the children are getting on in group lessons because many children do not like to appear on camera in front of their peers. They cannot support them fully when the teachers are struggling to gauge if they are confused and struggling with the work. Very few students are happy to contribute to discussions and answer questions, a lot less than in a classroom environment it would seem.
Children More Willing To Contribute
If you book one to one tuition this isn’t an issue for your child. They don’t mind just the tutor seeing them. Without the risk of peer judgement, they are willing to ask for help and clarification. This means they will get more out of the experience. I do feel for the teachers trying to teach big classes when all the cameras and microphones are off, it must seem very frustrating. They need the children to engage fully for everyone to get the most out of the experience.
Finding A Tutor
It can be hard finding a suitable tutor for your child. Fortunately, sites such as Tutorful let you browse thousands of student-rated tutors. It’s very reassuring having access to those reviews to make an informed decision when finding a tutor. I also like how you can see the number of repeat students and the qualifications they have. Tutorful also has all the technology you need to get the most out of the learning experience with an intuitive whiteboard both tutor and student can work together.
Help With Well-being

Lockdown is quite monotonous in nature. Covid-19 has had a big impact on our children’s mental health. Why not book your child a one to one lesson in something a bit different, like learning to code, dance or play the guitar? Hopefully, something that will capture their interest and make lockdown more exciting. Have a look through the subjects available through Tutorful to see what would inspire them. I think my youngest would love some singing lessons.
It’s been so difficult because all of their usual clubs and extracurricular activities are closed. A relaxing break for children doing something they really enjoy can help reduce stress and anxiety linked to living in lockdown. So even if your school has managed to perfect their online learning provision its well worth considering a tutor for a bit of fun so your child can let off steam doing something they really love.
