This book published by Pen and Sword documents the man behind the vibrant comics. Stan Lee gave life to the comic industry with his inspirational superhero characters such as the Hulk and Iron Man. Stan Lee lived such a long and successful life. He was a very ambitious man but was he truly deserving of the title “the man behind Marvel”, read on through the revealing storytelling in this worthy title and make up your own mind.

His Origin Story

I enjoyed being able to read the origin story of Stan Lee, how his roots shaped who he became. His childhood saw lots of struggles and hardship. Furthermore his parents would argue because they had money worries. His dad was always on the hunt for a new job, his confidence fell. Times were tough. Then when his new brother arrived money had to be stretched even further and they downsized to a one bedroom apartment.

Living in poverty caused a lasting impact on Stan Lee. It helped developed a deep rooted strong work ethic that spurned him on to do great things. The lack of money for the finer things in life also led Stan to become lost in books. They were a form of escapism he craved.

Despite the economic hardship he endured as a youngster he was surprisingly confident and charismatic. Some would even say arrogant. Those characteristics combined with a will to succeed, drove him on to his eventual fame and fortune. It wasn’t always easy he started out as an office dogsbody and built himself up, learning valuable skills from his idols and then perhaps ultimately betraying them.
