What artwork should I use in a nursery?

Having a baby in the house can be absolutely wonderful. This may make you feel like your family is genuinely complete. At the same time, you might want to make sure that their bedroom is full of life and colour. One of the ways of achieving this can be through artwork on the walls. You may want to think about the pieces that you choose. Some could help them to build bonds with their family, while others may aid in development. As your baby starts to grow, you may even want to think about showing how proud you are of the little person they are becoming.

Family photos

Babies may become accustomed to the people who are most often around them. As they grow, they may also learn to recognize themselves in the mirror or, in time, in photographs. Opting to have one of your family photographs on quality canvas prints can give you a great piece to display on the walls, and allow your child to see your face even when you aren’t in the room with them. A significant benefit of canvas, as opposed to a traditional photo frame, can be the lack of glass. This means that, even if your child does manage to knock them down, they may be far less likely to receive serious injury. Even so, it can be important to try and hang any artwork far out of reach.

Art for mental health

Even at a young age, your child may express different emotions. Some children may also be that much more resilient than others. Viewing artwork can be a good way to bring a sense of calm to your child. You might want to think about the things they love, ranging from specific colours they gravitate to, to flowers or animals, and even their favourite characters. Hanging these in your young child’s room may allow them to feel more positive. This could be especially important if they don’t like being left alone, as that artwork may allow them to feel less anxious.

Showcase their own art

Art has been shown time and again to help babies and toddlers develop their skills and imagination. Due to this, you might want to think about using their own art within their bedroom. While older children may be capable of using standard pens and paint, these may not be safe for babies. However, this doesn’t mean they cannot participate. You may want to make up some baby-safe paint using ingredients commonly found in the kitchen, and allow them to create their masterpiece. This could be achieved on paper, card, or even a canvas, and then put up on their wall. As your child grows, they may gain some level of pride from seeing their work hung up on the walls of the home.

Artwork in the nursery, or older child’s bedroom, can help to break up the monotony of the walls. It may also help your child to appreciate creativity and want to enhance their skills.
