Five Things To Prepare Before Going on a Road Trip
Road trips can be a fantastic adventure! Especially if you have a destination in mind such as visiting family or going to an event with friends. Road trips can last anywhere from several hours to days if you want. They can even cover some spectacular scenery if you plan it correctly. But road trips can also be quite worrisome for people, particularly if they haven’t driven long distances before. So in this post, we’re going to list five important things to prepare before going on a road trip.
1. Make a note of emergency contacts
During your road trip, you might encounter some kind of emergency that can easily be dealt with by calling the right person. For instance, you might need a mobile tyre replacement because your car broke down. Or you might need to call a tow truck in case your vehicle gets stuck on the motorway. These emergency contacts will be important to have if something ever happens on your road trip. Make a note of them in your smartphone contacts list. But do consider writing them in a notebook as well as a precaution in case your phone battery runs dry.
2. Stock up on some food and drinks
While you’re probably going to drive past plenty of petrol stations that have shops, you shouldn’t overlook the importance of just stocking up with some food and drink in your car. Get a big pack of water and bring some snacks like protein bars that will give you some energy.
3. Make sure your home is secure
Before you leave for a long trip, it’s a good idea to secure your home so that it’s protected while you’re away. This can mean turning on security systems, it could mean letting your neighbour know that you’ll be away, or it could even involve simple things like locking your doors and closing the curtains. This is especially important if you know that you’ll be gone for several days.
4. Plan out your route before you leave

While road trips can be spontaneous at times, it’s never a bad idea to plan out a route before you decide to leave. Make sure you print out a hard copy of a map or route as well so you can read it even if your smartphone dies. Make sure you take a note of all the places to stop along the way, especially if you know the road trip will last several days.
5. Prepare some essentials
Lastly, make sure you prepare some emergency essentials. This could include a first aid kit in case someone has an accident, it could be some equipment for replacing your tyres, or even some spare battery chargers to ensure your smartphone always has juice for maps and emergency contacts. You might also want to bring a blanket or two if it’s cold, and even some car-friendly games if you know you’ll be travelling with passengers in the back.
