Activity Holiday Inspirations for 2024
One of the most fun things to do as an avid traveller is to plan out new and exciting destinations you want to seek out in the upcoming year. This year, we want to focus a bit more on exciting activities that we can do during our holidays and look at fun things to do in the stunning landscapes that we have in Europe. We’re truly blessed with a fantastic number of different climates and natural landmarks surrounding us that allow us to enjoy ourselves in an array of ways. So, if you’re also looking for an activity holiday that’s a bit more than just exploring cities or relaxing at the beach – we have got you covered.
Walking, Hiking, and Trekking
Walking or hiking holidays offer a brilliant chance to connect with nature, discover remote areas, and challenge yourself physically like no other. You’ll be able to witness breathtaking sceneries, encounter diverse flora and fauna – and possibly stay in some incredibly charming mountain lodges! It’s a fantastic way to spend some mindful time just with yourself or some fellow trekking partners. Especially along the Alps, the Scottish Highlands or the English Lake District are great hiking destinations – and all over Europe there are magnificent walking or pilgrimage routes.
Self-Guided Cycling Tours
Cycling tours provide a unique blend of outdoor adventure and cultural exploration, with a higher physical demand than a walking tour. However, equal freedom and time for appreciation for the surrounding areas. You’ll be able to pass through charming villages on your activity holiday, visit historical landmarks, and enjoy the liberty to explore everything at your own pace. A lot of offers often include accommodation and the needed equipment, so you can fully focus on your journey, instead of logistics. We recommend riding along the Danube Cycle Path for a scenic river journey, exploring the Cotswolds for picturesque English countryside, or pedalling through the Loire Valley for charming vineyards and castles.
Refreshing Water Sports

Water sports holidays provide excellent excitement and a fantastic chance to enjoy the beautiful coastal landscapes we have available in Europe. And it doesn’t matter whether you’re a beginner or an experienced water enthusiast, you can expect thrilling experiences on the water, along with plenty of opportunities for relaxation on sandy beaches. So why not try kayaking along the stunning Dalmatian Coast in Croatia, windsurfing in the Canary Islands, or sailing in the Greek Islands?
Following the Snow
Winter sports holidays, on the other hand, provide the adrenaline-fueled thrill of gliding down snow-covered slopes, surrounded by truly breathtaking mountain scenery. With exhilarating downhill runs, a cosy apres-ski atmosphere, and the chance to try other winter activities like snowshoeing or ice skating, it’s a truly diverse and unique experience. Especially the French and the Swiss Alps, but also the Scottish Highlands are fantastic choices for skiing or snowboarding adventures on your activity holiday.
Thrilling Rock Climbing, Mountaineering and Zip-Lining
For an incredibly intense holiday, why not try rock climbing? It’s a challenging but very rewarding physical experience while mountaineering next to it involves ascending high-altitude peaks. Both activities require strength, stamina – and a love for nature. Especially for this one, it is crucial to assess your fitness level and acquire the necessary skills or certifications. Guides also often accompany participants, ensuring safety and providing lovely insights into the local terrain. Of course, the Alps are predestined for this – but the Peak District in the UK is also well known for rock climbing, as are other smaller Mountains in Europe. And Wales, particularly areas like Snowdonia, offers thrilling zip-lining experiences amidst stunning landscapes – for the way back down.
