My boys have started really enjoying playing board games on their own, saying we are “bored” so playing a game! They were excited when Bang On! (RRP £27.99) arrived.  A new game from Drumond Park (please check the website for stockists) and they rushed off to play!

Novel Timer

It was an instant hit, quite literally as they enjoyed using the hammer to get more time! As timers go this one is very unusual.  When you get an answer correct you get to hit the hammer and earn yourself a few more valuable seconds. It is advisable not to go full force in case you damage the unit.  But it coped okay with my two! They each really liked having turns with the hammer so tried hard to come up with correct answer.  It really motivated them to think.

It is quite fast paced as the time going down is visible to all.  You start panicking and wanting to get a right answer, so you can give yourself more time courtesy of a big bang with the hammer! Children will love the novel format, the easy set-up, simple rules and the compelling gameplay. It’s pitched at children 8+ but if you trust a younger child with the hammer I think they would enjoy the team element too.

Once you have 10 correct answers you must hand over the hammer to the next team. I think it’s good they have put a limit in place just in case the team is a little too good at getting extra time! If you’re not happy with one of the answers the other team gives you can show the challenge card and challenge their answer! But you only want to challenge an answer if your very confident that it won’t get overruled. Otherwise the team get another go on a question PLUS the points they had already won so far on that round.
