7 easy photography tricks that will make your shots picture-perfect

Just like many other skills out there, photography can take time to learn. Particularly if you want to take some picture perfect shots. Whilst one of the first things that you can do to help your photography abilities is to take one of the many online photography courses that are available out there.

This will give you the basic knowledge when it comes to putting together the perfect shot. However, what happens once you have completed your course and you are out on your own?

To help you to make the most of every shot that you take, we have put together 7 easy photography tricks that will make sure that your pictures are as perfect as can be.

Don’t be afraid to get in close

One of the simplest changes that you can make to your photos is to try and get that little bit closer to them. If you are finding that your images aren’t quite up to the mark, then why not take a few steps closer. This will allow you to fill your frame that little bit better and you won’t have to worry about wasted space.

Practice, practice, practice

Just like any other skill, if you don’t practice then you won’t be able to improve. Photography isn’t just a case of clicking and pointing your camera, which is why people like to do it. You need to take your time and really work at it. The simplest way to improve your photography skills is to always keep working at it. Even if you feel that you are already good, there is always a chance to be better.

Try your image with the flash on, even during the day

Find that your images are looking a little on the dull side? Think that you could benefit from a touch more light? This is where a flash can help. Even on the sunniest of days, if you force light onto your subject, then you will find that any shadows caused by the natural light can disappear and you will have an even exposure on the image.

Get the right ISO

One of the easiest of the settings on your camera to change, and yet still have an impact on the quality is the ISO. This setting looks at the shutter speed of the camera, with the lower end of the spectrum (often 100 or 200) better suited to daytime shooting and the higher end (800 or 1600) better when you are trying to capture an image in the low light.

Always read the manual

Seems obvious right? Well, the simplest way to make the most of your camera is to take a good read through the manual. Having a manual is going to help you to understand more about how to make the camera work for you and which settings work for which environment, lighting and subject.

Try to avoid the light coming in behind you

You may not realise it, but having the light behind you when you take a photograph is going to mean that the light on the subject is dull and flat. Instead, you should aim to keep the light source behind the subject or to the side of you both, this will ensure that you create an interesting photo and that it has a good level of light too.

Learn from others

There is no harm taking advice and inspiration from other photographers. After all, we all have different abilities, techniques and interests. It really does pay to join a photography community. Not only will this give you a place to go for moral support, but also learn things about how you can improve your very own photos. Knowing that there are other photographers out there who are struggling with a particular subject or style of photography will also make you feel a whole lot better if you are struggling too.
