When I was growing up some of the family would have artificial flowers.  It was blindingly obvious they weren’t real.  They always looked so fake!  They would be in these pots full of blue weird foam covered in a thick layer of dust.  I think back then I made a conscious decision to avoid faux flowers!  The idea of them never appealed.

But move on 30 years and you can now get such realistic flowers and plants that you would struggle to tell the difference.

It’s quite interesting to try out the Blooming Artificial photo quiz and see how many arrangements you manage to get right? I got 14/20 correct (70%).  But many of my answers were guesswork, I didn’t feel 100% confident on quite a few of them.

A couple of flowers really surprised me.  They were such beautiful realistic looking flowers that ended up being fake!!!  Apparently, the average score in the quiz was 55% which goes to show just how hard it has become to spot the difference.  I would be much happier buying artificial flowers now I have seen just how convincing they are.

I really like having cut flowers in the house, but they can work out expensive when you regularly replace them.  Given that you can’t tell the difference anymore I think I will start investing in artificial flowers to brighten up our home this winter.  Apparently, you can hairdryer off the dust so that’s good to know, as I think that lasting memory of artificial flowers from my childhood can be erased for good!

How to display your faux flowers?

Part of that feeling of realism is how you display them.  Individual stems look best and arranged as you would a real bouquet.  I really like the Flame Roses Bouquet pictured below.

Some people will notice the lack of water in the vase.  But you can get around this choosing to use an opaque vase or even buying a vase that has faux water!  If your getting faux flowers you might as well go the whole hog and have the faux water too!
