A Happy Portion of family time at breakfast
#AD I like our mornings to feature an exciting breakfast to coax my boys into a good routine and feel more positive about their day. As a family we love one heaped teaspoon of nutella (15g, 80kcal) lightly spread on toast or a pancake with a serving of fruit and a glass of milk.
Breakfast is the perfect time to connect as a family. Sometimes we are rushing around so sitting down altogether isn’t possible. But breakfast really can set the scene for the day. I have listed some tips on having a happy portion of breakfast time below:
Preparing the Night Before
In the mornings, I feel like I am being pulled in lots of different directions. There is so much to remember and get organised. Hectic mornings mean we don’t really get to enjoy family time. So putting a plan in place helps us to enjoy quality family time together at breakfast.

I am trying to prepare as much as possible the night before to free up time in the morning. I like the boys to have a serving of fruit with their breakfast, so I’m trying to cut that up the night before. Apparently lemon juice can stop apples from browning. But we prefer raspberries, grapes and strawberries and they seem to cope quite well chopped up overnight.
Setting The Alarm Clock
It would be great if breakfast was more leisurely. I think it’s worthwhile setting our alarm slightly earlier to make more of an occasion out of breakfast. Getting up 15 minutes earlier can make everything feel a bit more relaxed.
Involving The Kids
Getting children involved in breakfast can help them learn life skills in the kitchen. I’m giving them some responsibility, letting them set up the breakfast things before we sit down to eat.
Setting An Example
Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day. However many of us have it on the hop! If we sit down and have a proper breakfast, the children are likely to follow our lead as children tend to model the choices we make.
Then we use the time we have over breakfast to chat about our days. What we are looking forward to or worried about? Breakfast is a great time of day to chat about these things, and put everyone’s minds at ease for the day ahead. Breakfast also helps with concentration levels, so your children will do better at school for having had something tasty in their tummies.

I’m trying to make breakfast time to sit down and relax and chat before school instead of rushing around like we currently do. I’m going to try preparing the night before and getting up a little earlier like you.
I’ve been trying to prepare breakfast in advance too. I love cooking up a huge frittata that I can slice up through the week.

I set the alarm half an hour earlier than we need to ensure the kids are up and awake enough for breakfast. We love Nutella
I love nutella so good choice there. I try so much to make an effort to have breakfast but most of the time I take it to work with me and eat it there x
I used to absolutely LOVE Nutella at breakfast time when I was able to have dairy. I wish they’d bring out a dairy free version. Until then, I just drool over my partner enjoying it! xxx
Nutella on pancakes is a very Greek thing to do they love it out there although theirs is called Merenda, we still go for plain old lemon and a sugar dusting
