Our Outdoor Adventure With Savlon Advanced Healing Gel
I was sent a Head Torch, a safety whistle and a Forest Club Book so my boys could head off on an outdoor adventure thanks to Savlon Advanced Healing Gel. My eldest son has recently joined air cadets. The first two items of equipment are essential for camping trips! The safety whistle helps people pinpoint your location if you manage to get lost. If he has my sense of direction, he will be glad of the whistle that’s for sure! But after flicking through the lovely Forest Club Book I decided to try some of those activities instead.
Get Outdoors
There are so many benefits for children being outdoors. They tend to be more active and can top up on Vitamin D. It’s important to not let the change in weather put you off getting outdoors as a family! Even in Winter we can still get enough Vitamin D. That vitamin really gives our mood a much-needed boost. But sadly, parents are reluctant to let their children spend time outdoors. Even though most parents (94% from the Savlon Advanced Healing Gel survey) realize how important it is for their child’s development, they worry too much about them. Read my other article for ideas to get outdoors as a family.
Sadly, almost a third of children surveyed don’t play outside during winter which is a real shame. Half term can be such an expensive time keeping the kids entertained but it’s amazing what you can do without spending very much at all. If you wrap them up warm and take a few essentials with you, there is so much fun to be had outside.
Yes, bumps and scrapes are inevitable when you spend so much time outdoors. Luckily Savlon Advanced Healing Gel helps soothe the pain of minor wounds and also helps promote faster healing, so it’s worth bringing some with you on days out for cuts and grazes. You don’t want anything getting in the way of their enjoyment of an outdoor adventure!
Berry Painting
We decided to collect berries and try out berry painting as suggested in the book. When it comes to picking the fruit from bramble bushes you can hurt yourself on the sharp thorns. If you forget to bring gloves just make sure you have your Savlon Advanced Healing Gel with you to come to the rescue afterwards! A little bit of Savlon Advanced Healing Gel cheered up my boys when the berry thorns were too spiky and hurt them.

Adventurer Will Copestake: “There is enormous value in giving children the freedom to roam and discover things first hand. It’s really important for children to discover certain risks and dangers for themselves rather than just being warned of them by an adult. Children very quickly bounce back from mishaps and heal well. It’s important for parents to remember that there’s nothing wrong with getting a few cuts and bruises and scrapes!”
I did notice the boys learnt how to pick the berries more carefully after a few mishaps with the thorns, so they discovered and learnt from the experience themselves just like Will mentioned. One of the parents main concerns is how to treat minor ailments. But luckily Savlon Advanced Healing Gel has that covered. It’s easy to apply and works quickly! You can pick up a pack from Superdrug for £4.29.
Leaf Wreath

We were also keen to make a leaf wreath. Now its Autumn the leaves are falling from the trees so whilst we looked out for berries, we also collected leaves. When we arrived home, it was nice to have enough leaves and berries to complete both activities.

Our outdoor adventures meant my children had the opportunity to be creative and feel a real sense of achievement. They really liked the finished leaf wreath and we hadn’t even thought of painting with berries before. The whole experience was so much better for them than being cooped up indoors! Even with a few scratches from the thorns and prickly leaves!

This is a fantastic post – being outdoors is great for kids! The product looks awesome too!!
Ah these look like some lovely autumnal products. I bet Savlon would be a lifeline for us, especially my eldest show is always falling over!!
I am all for getting out and about all year round but the lack of vitamin D takes its toll and keeps me close to home, silly really isn’t it.
I am definitely going to make more effort this year to enjoy all the seasons outdoors x
Aww what some lovely ideas to get out and about with in Autumn. I think having Savlon on hand is a must, especially when you are accident prone like me as well!
I can empathize with parents who worry about their kids while outside, but for me, the benefits definitely outweigh my worries! We pretty much live outside during all four seasons and I carry a little first aid kit with me all the time. You never know when you might need it!
We love getting out and about! Jack also manages to get out a lot with his Beavers group. I’m definitely going to be giving making a leaf wreath a go with him!
Getting outdoors is good for all the senses. It always makes me feel much more clear minded too.- I love the leaf wreath idea!
It’s so important to spend some time outdoors each day, even in autumn and winter. Savlon is an essential part of my medicine kit – I even carry a small tube in my handbag for any scrapes my kiddies get into when we are out and about.
I think it’s so important for kids to get out and about and spend more time outdoors as there’s so much technology that kids don’t do it enough x
We used to pick brambles when we were kids growing up. I used to love it, except for the associated wasp stings! The juiciest berries were in the middle of the bramble patch where the birds couldn’t get them, and our mother used to make us go in – we’d come running out chased by wasps, and covered in scratches! Savlon would definitely have come in handy, lol!
Theres some lovely ideas there for outdoor activities here. We love being outdoors in the outdoors, full on rain gear so they can get as muddy as they like.
I hate to be stuck indoors so we try to get outside as much as possible. Erin is really into collecting leaves at the minute for crafts.
We love being outdoors, even in Winter. My husband and I actually got engaged on New Year’s Day, during a picnic in the snow!
I love these ideas for getting out and about in Autumn, I love it when it’s crisp but sunny, and right now is the perfect time of year for that x
My older son did air cadets but my younger ones are all into scouts, cubs and beavers. It is important that get to learn how to be safe outdoors
