Why I Miss Carpets

Our house has laminate flooring and now its winter its freezing!  I dread walking around barefoot. My feet get so cold its painful.  There are so many benefits for having carpet, I am tempted to make a flooring change.  Here are the main reasons I miss carpets.  I want to make sure I have a strong case when I try and convince my husband that we make the change!

Decoration

Carpets have lots of different patterns, they are so versatile and can be very vibrant.  They can really change the look of a room.  Paragon Carpet Tiles are a great choice if you want to come up with your own design, tiles can slot together in your own pattern.  Perfect if you want to express your personality in a room.

Our laminate flooring in every single room can get a little repetitive.  Yes, it might be cohesive, however inspiring probably not!  Five years in our “new house” I feel ready for a change.

Feeling Of Warmth

When you feel the soft touch of a carpet underfoot you can’t help but feel cosy and warm.  I really miss that comforting sensation.  Certain carpet materials are warmer than others have a look to see what places like flooring contractors North West have to offer.

I think it’s worse now I am getting older and finding the cold harder to manage.  As we age our body doesn’t react as quickly to changes in temperature.  I think I would go for a wool carpet the thicker the better with a decent underlay!  I have heard great things about wool carpets.

Save On Heating Costs

Carpets provide much needed insulation.  Apparently, you can lose 10% of your heating through uninsulated floors.  Opting for carpet and underlay can save you a fortune on your heating bills.  In our old stone house, every penny counts!  A 10% saving would make a big difference to us.

Sound Insulation

Some of our rooms are quite echoey without the sound insulation of carpet.  Our laminate flooring seems to amplify the sound.  Investing in carpets is a great way to reduce noise pollution in your home.  Sometimes I am trying to watch a show and the dog comes tip tapping around on the laminate.  It gets quite loud and I can’t hear what is going on.  Carpet would absorb the sound and let me concentrate again.  I guess carpets are even more important in flats if you want a good relationship with your neighbours!

Safer Option

If you fall onto carpet it’s a much softer landing.  You are unlikely to get hurt if its nicely padded.  Much better if you have little ones starting to walk, tumbles are very common or if you have brothers who like to wrestle and fall off the sofa and injure themselves!  Or is that just my boys…

Also, carpets have higher friction you are unlikely to slide and fall when you walk on them.  The preferred choice as you get older and less steady on your feet. But when you have carpets its important to keep on top of carpet care.
