I absolutely loved the original Carnival Films’ Emmy^® award-winning television series.  I was so sad when the six and final series ended on Christmas day 2015.  Naturally I was thrilled when they decided to make Downton Abbey The Movie.

Unfortunately, I did not manage to make it to the cinema to watch it when it was first released.  Sadly, my immediate family don’t share my fondness for period drama.  However, when the review copy arrived, I was excited to see all the original cast are back.  Especially my favourite Violet Crawley.  I love her frankness.

Watching the film was such a pleasant way to pass the afternoon.  I snugged in a blanket and got lost in the era, impatient to catch up with the antics of the Crawley family.  I love soaking up all the details.  The film centers around the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Downton Abbey, you see all the preparations being made, and the staff getting excited.  Although things soon turn sour when they realize that the royal household staff are very arrogant and rude.

There is plenty of drama and romance to keep you on your toes, its tricky getting it all in one film when we are used to having lots of episodes for the plot to play out.  I was satisfied with the end, as most people seemed paired up and happy.  It would be unfair to give too many details away here.  I know if you haven’t watched it yet you will want the element of surprise.  Fingers crossed their will be another installment of the film, I want to see how things play out with Tom.

Downton Abbey The Movie is available on Digital 13 January and Blu-ray and DVD 27 January, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
