Preparing your house for all seasons
The changing of the seasons makes us take care to wrap up before we leave the house. However, we often forget to wrap up inside too. Now, this doesn’t mean walking round in hats and scarfs, but it does mean taking measures to ensure your home is going to be functioning at optimum efficiency during the colder months. A bonus here is the colder months give us an excuse to invest in cosy furnishings we’ve been admiring but haven’t had a reason to need yet. So, here’s some handy hints for preparing your house for winter.
Windows and doors
Drafts are the biggest cause of colds and back of the neck tension. Make sure to double check the cold air isn’t seeping through the crevices of your doors and windows without your knowledge.
Go above ground level
If your roof is missing any tiles or they are broken, that can cause many problems for the structure of your house if you don’t get them fixed immediately. Broken tiles can leave your roof vulnerable to water damage or physical damage if they fall off.
Gutters can also become an issue as they are connected to your pipes, and if they freeze when they are blogged with debris, you’re looking at the possibility of cracks which won’t be cheap to fix. Make sure you clean them out in the warmer months when the debris will be dry and scrape out easily.
Spring cleaning…but for autumn
Quarterly deep-cleans are best for a healthy atmosphere in your home. Develop a routine that works for your habits and activities in the home will maintain the health of the fixtures and fittings around the home, and its occupants.
Insulation
This can be done in several ways, though modern technology directs us to our flooring when planning how to ensure our homes are set for winter. Luxury vinyl flooring comes with insulated underlay and is manufactured in such a way that it won’t warp from the power of under floor heating.
Refresh your fireplace

If you already have vinyl flooring in your home, you may wonder if it is safe to use your fireplace as well. Of course, it is safe, if you clean it thoroughly after each use to stop the build-up of debris and ash from spreading onto your beautiful vinyl flooring.
Set the mood
Whether it’s a family film night, girls wine night or a getting rid of ‘that bad smell’ night, candles can work wonders. A nice shiny vinyl flooring will add an element of grandeur to any space as its glossy coating will reflect the candles flame if in the right position.
Treat your feet

Vinyl flooring is fantastic but sometimes our feet want something a little plusher. A rug features nicely in front of a fireplace or decorated wall. It brings a cosier touch to a large house and insulates smaller homes.
