Summer Boredom Buster Giveaway
I was delighted to be sent a Summer Boredom Buster bundle to keep my boys occupied over the holidays. It can be a bit daunting having such a long stretch ahead to fill! Fortunately, this delivery had plenty to offer, with a game, a science set, and a tool for getting creative.
Don’t Get Rattled
This IDEAL game was very easy to set up. The aim of Don’t Get Rattled is to try and steal jewels from the sleeping snake without waking him. If he wakes up during your go, you lose the jewel you are trying to collect and one from your stash. Gently you need to get a jewel on your spade, or the snake is more likely to snap awake.
Keep the pressure light and you will safely retrieve your jewel. The first to five wins.
Without a doubt it does get a bit tense. The snakes tail is rattling and you keep wondering when it will lunge into wakefulness! My youngest son was keeping quite a close eye on that snake!
Even if you are careful taking the jewel the timer does eventually run out anyway and the snake will spring into action! We were trying to pass on the spade as quick as possible so it wouldn’t happen on our own turn.
My eldest was delighted when he won!
No batteries are needed for the Don’t Get Rattled game, which is always a bonus.
Ultimate Gross Science
This John Adams science set lets you complete 12 yucky experiments. You can create a bouncing poo, mould a bouncy eyeball, and even make a skull vomit! Undoubtedly you soon realize just how revolting the human body can be.
Ultimate Gross Science set is very educational, it lets them know how bodily functions work. For example children can learn more about digestion and how bottom burps are produced. However, kids will find it appealing because it’s such a gross way to learn how the body works! If you want to continue home-schooling in the holidays this is the set for you! It makes learning exciting. Children won’t find science dull with this set.
Admittedly you do need a few extra things to complete the experiments. But most you should have in stock like sugar, brown bread, and sweetcorn perhaps with the exception of the ladies tights.

If your children enjoy art this tool is perfect. Looking through the optical viewer they can see outlines of any picture they like and create it by their own hand.

I’m keeping them entertained by getting out in the garden whilst the weather is good, we are making our own gardening patch for the first time. Maybe a few day trips away with picnics.

We’ve purchased a hot tub and have a bbq coming so we can enjoy time together at home. We have regular family games nights, cinema nights and craft sessions with my daughter.

I’m not sure how much we’ll see of the grandchildren over the summer as we’ve seen them a few times since lockdown started to ease but their other grandparents haven’t been able to see them since Christmas, so I know they are hoping to go and stay with them for part of the holidays. But I’m sure we’ll have them here a few times, and we have lots of cooking together planned (as usual!) plus I’m hoping to teach them how to make rolled beeswax candles.
We will be going to the park and the beach with the grandchildren if we get the all clear to take them in the car, otherwise its ball games in the garden and craft making indoors

With a “high risk” son it’s been difficult to keep them entertained all the time through lockdown without giving in and letting them oh their computers all the time … lots of board games and family films for us. When lockdown was eased slightly we managed to get out walking and found some beautiful places we didn’t even know existed right in our doorstep! (We also ventured further afield too when we allowed to drive to the place of exercise) … x

It’s so busy here, with holidaymakers that we can’t really get out because we’re unable to be safe and social distance so we’ll be playing lots of board games and video games together in the holidays.
So far we’ve been fruit picking and have been baking using the results. (Lots of rhubarb crumbles and apple/ blackberry pies in the freezer)
We’ve also been ‘park hopping’. I.e. instead of visitng the same park every day, which is only at the end of our road, we have been venturing further afield to try out others.
Daisy loves to write about things so she has the task of writing us a review of each park so we can decide which we want to return to when we’ve exhausted all of the parks nearby.

we have sat down as a family and written a list of things we would like to do, so little day trips to the beach, park, dog walking places, trying to do something fun at least once a week, so we all have something to look forward to seeing as our overseas holiday was cancelled 🙁

Have bought a tent so that we can camp in the garden, all of us including the dog and we will cook on instant barbecues. Apart from that it will be long walks in our local forest, den building and bug collecting no doubt!

When my four granddaughters visited recently we cleaned out the shed to make a little house for them. Also having all four together makes it easier as they have playmates.

My Kids are older & my eldest has been taking the family out into the country for long walks as well as doing cooking classes with them. When they’re here, weather permitting we tend to do a bit of gardening & cake baking.
Outdoor time when weather allows, as they do like to be active, adventurous, explore new things and places. Parks we do enjoy.
When weather is wet. They can put on Wellington boots, anorak and get some time outdoors. Obviously poor weather tends to limit any outdoors time. So having some books, games , arts and crafts ready for use. Always worthwhile getting some on occasions when the children are not around :- So as they can be put away for such times. As they do like surprises, new activities, etc. Gifts / treats from family and friends can be a real bonus /asset.
We do enjoy picnics when weather allows. Worthwhile having a chat to determine what each individual would like to be in the picnic. Choose some from options. As worthwhile having a number of picnics over the Summer.
May do some card making. As children enjoy such activities, and relatives appreciate their efforts / creativity, etc.

Sadly because of Covid we have no grandchildren staying with us this holiday. Its a very strange feeling and the house is somewhat quiet without them. Doesn’t stop me trying to find things for them to do when we eventually have them to stay again
