Ride Like A Girl is based on a real-life inspirational story. The jockey Michelle Payne has always dreamed of winning the prestigious and very challenging Melbourne Cup since being a little girl. Then against all odds goes on to be the first woman jockey to accomplish that in 2015. She was listed as 100/1 chance of winning riding Prince of Penzance, Michelle really was considered the underdog. But her relationship with her horse was special, together they gave it their all to go on and win.

Her incredible achievement in a male-dominated sport is heart-warming. It makes you realize with determination you can achieve anything! Even when the male jockeys are not making her feel welcome, she shows such strength and resolve.

Michelle Payne has nine siblings and her dad is raising them on his own after his wife sadly died in a car crash. Michelle was only six months old at the time. Despite the sad undercurrent the film is actually very positive and uplifting.

Supported by the love and encouragement of her dad and brother she follows her dream. Stevie Payne (the brother) plays himself in the film and could not be more perfect for the role. Despite all the hardships with focused determination she manages to succeed.

The film is a roller coaster of emotions that all the family will enjoy. Horse racing wasn’t something that came easy for Michelle Payne. She said she didn’t have the natural talent of some jockeys but what she did have was unbelievable willpower and led to a historic victory! This film really is a worthy tribute for female jockeys.
