Weekly update

Week 32 of 2020: Greenwood and More Cocktails

I cannot believe I am writing another weekly update already. It feels like the summer holidays are starting to speed up now. Since I posted last, we have celebrated my mum’s birthday. We had a tasty takeout Sunday dinner and I ordered another cake from SPONGE for the occasion. I am always impressed with the size of the cake for the money and they do taste good! My mum wanted coffee cake, but if pushed their chocolate orange has to be my fave!

Escape Room

We did an online escape room this week. It cost £10 with The Panic Room. Having done Breakout in Liverpool I wondered how an online escape room would work.  I definitely missed rooting through all the props. Even so it was quite challenging. I was impressed seeing my boys and hubbie work out the puzzles! I think I only managed to help them once! The boys had fun though which is the main thing. I am not sure I would do it again, The Panic Room do have a few more options we could try. But I think I would prefer to visit Breakout again instead. It might be more expensive but its so much more immersive.

Cocktails and a BBQ

I mentioned before how I felt quite confident after my cocktail masterclass at the Moonpig Virtual Event, so this week I thought I would make some for my mum with the help of my boys! They are quite good at pouring measures and shaking the cocktails.

We also invited my parents around for a barbecue. As they haven’t really left their house much at all I thought they really could do with a change of scene! They both had a wonderful time. I thought it was funny this time we had yeti ice cubes as I was all out of the ones provided for the Moonpig event. They were certainly a bit quirky!

More Cakes

My husband said he fancied a walk so we went on another cake run! I think I slowly need to ease off. But I know when the boys are back in school, I won’t be eating quite as much. Plus, I think there are more pressing things than worrying about calories right now. Cake spreads a little joy, so we went round to my parents to share. I had cherry cake, flapjacks, fruit cake and lemon drizzle. My mum is always pleased to see us but even more so when we arrive with goodies!

Camping

We camped out another night with the boys. So, it was s’mores and outdoor cinema again on the agenda. I much prefer sleeping in my own bed, I don’t think we got into our sleeping bags till 2am. But if it makes the boys happy then I am willing to oblige occasionally. I want them to have some nice summer holiday memories.

Greenwood Forest Park

Yesterday we headed on our first proper family day out. I felt safer picking Greenwood Forest Park because its primarily an outside attraction. It did us the world of good being out in the fresh air. Although even with restricted entry it was fairly busy. But Greenwood Forest Park were on the ball with cleaning which helped it feel safer. Naturally, it did increase the wait time in the queues. However, we still managed to do plenty and get enough value for money! The boys especially liked archery, going on the Green Dragon coaster (we all had to wear masks for that), the Great Green Run and Solar Splash. We also found time for some den building.
