Five Health Benefits Of Golf

I want to encourage my children to be more active now we have put lockdown behind us. There is a golf course in the area so it might be something worth exploring. I have been reading all about all the health benefits of golf. I am keen for them to give it a try. Their uncle is a keen golf player, so it might be something he can introduce them too. He has all the clubs and golf gear they can borrow.

Fresh Air

Playing golf gets people outside. Many families have spent longer than usual indoors during lockdown so are in a desperate need of a boost of Vitamin D provided by the sun! Plus spending more time outdoors has lots of other health benefits. For example, it can lower blood pressure, give you an energy boost and improve your mood.

Getting In Those Steps

Lately I have been encouraging the family to get in 10000 steps a day. Recently the boys have started grumbling whenever I suggest “just a walk”. So golf might be the solution I was looking for. Fortunately, golf requires a fair bit of walking, some courses are vast! So, golf is the perfect way for my boys to walk whilst being distracted doing a fun activity. Just make sure you don’t introduce your family to the merits of a golf buggy! Keep them on foot.

Longevity

Apparently, studies have shown that golfers live longer. I am sorely tempted to book a Golf Holiday to Spain after reading that! Maybe I can combine my love of travel with a new pastime that will keep me young at heart. I have definitely become more interested in my health lately. We have bought a rowing machine and a fancy weighing scales that are very informative about my husband and my own metabolic age, body fat percentage and visceral fat (the fat around your organs).  If golf can help you live 40% longer its well worth trying!

Boosts Happiness

The NHS went through a phase of prescribing golfing sessions because it boosted happiness.  Generally people that are more active feel better. It is linked into being out in the fresh air but other things too. Golf can be a social sport so it can build up your self esteem making connections with other people. Also, it’s a great distraction if you have stressful things going on in your life. You can focus on golf and let those tensions subside.

Better Night’s Sleep

All that fresh air can help with a better night’s sleep. Sleep patterns are all out of sync after lockdown. But getting more exercise and time outdoors will help get you into better sleeping habits again.
