4 Tips For Creating a Study Space at Home

If you need to study at home, it can be incredibly difficult to get the peace and quiet you need. You might have children pestering you all day, or your parents constantly asking you to clean your room. Maybe you just can’t get into the right headspace needed to focus on your work. You’ve tried taking your laptop to your local coffee shop, but the noise will be even worse and buying multiple cappuccinos each day can take a toll on your bank balance. So I thought it might be helpful to give you some tips for creating a study space at home.

Creating the perfect study space is essential for academic success. It will give you everything you need to revise effectively and prepare yourself for your exams. It doesn’t matter whether you’re studying for a diploma of youth work with TSA or an accountancy course, film school, or an OTD degree. You can’t afford for your work to suffer!

But with the right tools and equipment, it is perfectly possible to create the perfect revision space in your own home. To get you started on your journey, here are four tips to help you create the ideal setup.

Find the right spot

You might be the kind of person who likes to work wherever you feel comfortable. Perhaps you’ll be sitting on the sofa or the kitchen table one day, and lying on the grass in the garden the next. But it really helps to have your own designated workspace. This will allow you to organise your work more easily. Sitting down in your little office each day will get you into exactly the right head space needed to focus. You don’t get this sitting in front of the TV or sunbathing on the lawn. Furthermore, if you have a private space in which to work, other members of your household are more likely to respect your privacy during study time. Talk to your family and see if you can come to an arrangement about commandeering a particular room for studying during the day.

Declutter

Study Space at Home

The state of your workplace has a significant influence on your mental state. If you have clutter strewn all over your desk, you are more likely to feel stressed and unfocused. Start your day with a tidy study space, and you will find it much easier to concentrate. Store your stationery and books neatly and make sure everything has its place to which you always return it.

Get comfortable

The more comfortable you are while studying, the easier you will find it to focus for long periods. If not, you will struggle to get into your work, and you’ll keep finding excuses to take breaks. A good desk chair is the most important factor. Make sure it is ergonomic and supports your back while sitting. Your desk and computer should be set at the right height, and you might need to adjust the heating so the room is the correct temperature.

Minimize distractions

Talk to other members of the household and let them know that you don’t want to be distracted while you are studying. Try to shut yourself away and turn off your phone so you’re not constantly interrupted by notification alerts.
