UK Alias Giveaway With Tactic Games
Tactic Games kindly got in touch to offer me a couple of board games. They wanted to give me a helping hand with spending quality time together as a family at home during lockdown. Tactic Games have so many fantastic titles it was hard to choose. But we finally opted for UK Alias (£19.99) and Mexican Train (RRP £29.99). These fun games have lifted our spirits in lockdown.
UK Alias
The UK Alias game focuses on our wonderful country. I thought this was a good choice for the boys to learn more of our culture, history and sayings. It definitely brought out everyone’s competitive side. The game was also quite challenging. If you pass on an answer you have to go back a space. But that can work out well if it means you manage to score lots of points after making the decision to pass.
It’s a good game to get your brain thinking, using your descriptive skills to the best of your ability. You also lose a point for each mistake, such as explaining the word with a word that it already contains. At one point my team was just scoring minus points each round… it was frustrating! But I was still completely hooked on the game, it just made me want to do better.
My eldest son was on a team with my dad and he was trying to explain Baby Shark to him! In the end he gave you with the song and tried to explain it as a new-born and an apex predator of the sea! Then my dad had no problem guessing the answer. So, you do need to think about what your team members knowledge base might be and work with that. Although It can get a little frantic as the timer runs out.
On the board there four “stealing spaces” where you then have five word cards on your following turn and anyone can steal the points by correctly guessing the answers.

Mexican Train

We already enjoy playing dominoes as a family. However Mexican Train made it all that more exciting. Up to eight players can play this game so it is perfect for bigger families. It’s quite simple to get started. Mexican Train plays in a similar way to dominoes but with more of a challenge. You have your own train line and other players cannot use it unless it becomes open to everyone (when you haven’t been able to place a domino during your go either from your hand or the extra bone pile). There is also the Mexican Train that everyone can add to. On your first go you can play as many dominoes as possible. Whilst on subsequent goes its one domino at a time.

Once you have finished your first game play can continue with further rounds, just make sure you document the points remaining on your unplaced dominoes each time. My eldest managed to get rid of all his dominoes each time. However, we still calculated the other players dominoes to work out second, third and fourth place winners.
Mexican Train is a wonderful combination of skill and luck! You need to think strategically which dominoes you play, ideally keeping your trainline only open to yourself so the other players have less choice when placing their dominoes. It can also be a good idea to play your higher scoring dominoes as soon as possible as you want to be left with a low total score at the end.

OK, we are in some sort of a routine, but I was not cut out for being a teacher! :/ Sim x
Been ok for us, just be glad when this is hopefully all behind us.
We are plodding along as best we can like everyone else seems to be doing. ♥
This lock down has been hard. Our kids remained at school as my husband and I both had to work (he’s a bus driver and I work in a YMCA homeless hostel) our 6 year old especially has found it tough being at school with only 2 other children from her year. Where as my 4 year has flourish getting 121 speech therapy at school. Our three year old never stops laughing and ultimately I could not feel more blessed ❤️
Finding plenty to do and in a good routine now,
We are doing fine in lockdown, we are doing lots of backing and have been sorting out the garden
we love board games in our house, but it does get a tad competitive!?!
we are doing okay – plenty of long walks out doors, plenty of puzzles, reading, playing games and crafts…not so much learning and following school set work though
Doing OK at mo, better once weather improves
No too bad. We are used to it now!
We are ok, we are all abit fed up but there is light at the end of the tunnel!
We’re having our walks playing games arts and crafts baking can’t wait for things to go back tk normal if I’m honest
Not too bad just trying our best and hoping it ends soon!
been ok , but hopefully soon back to school
They are not doing bad, a few unusual kick offs about rubbish but mainly managing
We are doing OK and enjoying our quality family time together 🙂
It is getting a bit trying now, I think we all need a break pretty soon
We are fine, lots of dog walks for fresh air
As a key worker, they’re still going to school as usual which brings about a sense of normality in all this madness!
been ok , but hopefully soon back to school
We are taking every day as it comes, they miss their friends and going out and it can be difficult to motivate them with online schoolwork but we are OK
Things are ok now that there is a routine.
As long as they are kept busy the are ok.
We had a few bad days but are doing much better with a routine each day
Okay now we’ve got a bit of a routine!
My girls are 300 miles away, keeping each other safe and occupied while studying , we can only talk over zoom , some anxious times but getting through it
My niece and nephew are doing well considering.
My grandson gave up as soon as his support teacher wasn’t there but my two granddaughters have been loving it, spurring each other on even though they are 3years apart.. Getting my grandson out of his bedroom has got more difficult over time but he will engage with board games and cooking so I go over (my bubble) and help whenever I can especially when my daughter has meetings etc for work on zoom.
I am a key worker so am still working. My grandson is doing really well considering he has a baby sister who loves to distract him.
There’s no set routine but somehow we’re still getting everything done and no-one has killed anyone in the, almost year, we’ve been doing it.
as a single mum of 4 whos also working its a struggle! my eldest is my childcare but also trying to do her GCSE work
We take everyday at a time and have realised a lot of creatures in nature we otherwise would not stop to see.
Not too bad, we get under each others feet now and again, but have kind of got used to it now
We are missing seeing our friends & family but coping ok
Not doing too bad really. Its hard at work lately as I work in a primary school , but I do enjoy the family time when I do come home as my husband also works in school.
We are not doing as bad as we did on the first lockdown, we get the odd days where they need to burn off some energy but they are less grouchy as last year it was summer during lockdown and they wanted to go somewhere that wasn’t the back garden.
We are actually doing really well, making the most of the time we can spend together before school is back on. We’re missing our days out and adventures with friends and family though.
This lockdown has been harder because there seems to be very little hope left, it just feels like a way of life now
We’re all doing ok, just trying to make the best of it x
We are doing ok trying to stick to a routine which I think helps us all.
Really struggling with the lockdown, everyone is so bored and missing their friends
We are all ok. Getting a bit fed up. But the lighter nights and better weather are on it’s way.
We’re constantly trying to come up with new ideas for crafts & other activities – a new board game would be fab to grab our attention!
My eldest is 18 and studying from home (college work, 2nd year) but has been extremely worried about the pandemic from the very start. My middle child is high risk (breathing problems) and he is loving being at home! He’d never go back given the chance! ha ha … my youngest is being a right pain in the butt now … She needs to go back to school ASAP, she’s very sociable and is realllly missing her friends X
They are happy to do home schooling and seem happy, though will not leave the house
I think we are all ready for going back to normal
Doing ok, spending less but looking forward to being able to get away and do activities again 🙂 Hope you are doing ok too.
It’s been tough this time around. Schools are opening back up for foundation phase next week and I’ve got to admit to being kind of relieved!
Crafting, baking, argueing although my kids are older
My children have adapted really well to this latest post-Christmas lockdown, whereas in contrast, I’ve found this the hardest yet!
We’re much closer as a family but will be glad to get back to some normality
Ok but can’t wait to get back to school
All want to get back to normal
There are so many things to do together – they’re helping spring clean and we’ve been taking walks watching winter loosen it’s hold! xx
I’m working so can’t do much homeschooling just a little in the evening
Its not been so bad, there is a light at the end of the tunnel now. Its been harder on my teenager than it has on my daughter who is 9. years old.
I don’t have children, so I haven’t had the added pressure others have of homeschooling so I am grateful for that. However my job has been very intense due to lockdown so I have been very busy. I love playing games with my family over zoom and this is perfect!
It has been ok although very boring. Now that the kids have gone back to school it feels a bit strange. My 15 year old couldn’t wait to go back, but my 12 year old wasn’t so keen.
We have both been in school/working so haven’t been affected as much this time round. Missing having days out to look forward to on a weekend though!
No too bad – i think everyone has got used to it – the new normal.
We are finding it tough the longer it goes on because we want to be able to get together and feel safe and able to have fun again!
We seem to be coping fine but are looking forward to being able to meet up with family & friends soon
We’re doing ok, it has been lovely for my girls to spend more time with their baby brother than they would otherwise have been able to but they have missed their friends and the routine of school
We are fastidiously adhering to the rules and playing lots of board games.
Doing the best we can given the present circumstances. Meanwhile hoping for Covid 19 infections to decline, and Covid 19 Pandemic Lockdown Regulations to ease. As missing loved ones, Family, friends, outings, etc.
We’re doing well, got into our new routine but missing outings
They are fine, I am struggling
My grandchildren are so happy to be back at school
We coped as well as we could, homeschooling was very hard. My daughter lost interest in it after a while but we kept plodding on and doing what we could.
My grandchildren have done really well during lockdown and now they are back to school which is a great relief to us all!
My son’s much happier now he’s back at school!
We’re doing ok, its my elderly mum who’s struggling the most
Struggling a bit with home schooling and keeping them on track but now they’re back at school they seem happy robe back amongst their friends.
We had a good daily homeschooling routine. It’s been nice not to be rushing them to after school activities. I’ll miss the more leisurely pace
We are getting on alright, but we are certainly really appreciative of all our old social groups and can’t wait for them to start up again and have some family days out at the weekends.
We’ve mainly been okay as we are lucky to be in the countryside and have been getting plenty of fresh air
My two teenagers are doing really well and getting on with their work. My 6 year old is a different matter entirely – she doesn’t want to do anything for me at all!!!! Help!
Want to get back to normal
It’s been a rough year with a lot of highs and lows. We’re all looking forward to getting back to ‘normal’
It started off as an adventure but lost the novelty fast. Only strict routines kept us on track!
A mixed bag of responses and we are all pleased to begin thinking about day trips, holidays and family gatherings soon.
to start with we were ok—but now it seems a bit too much
I have worked all throughout the lockdown so I am actually desperate for a holiday xxx
We get out walking after breakfast along our local seafront or on the beach. It sets us up for the day of home schooling. xx
we have been ok but would be nice to see close family properly and friends again
has become routine but now schools bk on they seem very scared and depressed
Ok thank you. We have had our ups and downs like everyone but generally managing. The kids make me smile which cheers me up if I’m feeling a bit sorry for myself.
I’ve immersed myself in my books to keep me busy but my sons more social than I am and was badly missing his friends. He’s much better now he is back at school and no more home school battles.
I hated the first lockdown as was stuck at home. I am a key worker and was working throughout this lockdown and my daughter attended key worker provision at school so at least we weren’t as isolated as last time.
Enjoyed some parts of it. Liked the first lockdown best but found this one hard.
My grand daughter has real struggled with home learning – she is dyslexic and misses the one to one help she gets in school
Let’s just say we’ll all be very glad when it’s all over.
Kids are doing great not so sure my wife and I are though 😀
We’re back to school now which is great as my little one found lockdown difficult. Missed her friends and the structure of school
Lots of walking
I’m a retired teacher, so I helped out with grandchildren. Really enjoyable!
We’re all trying to make the best of it!
