Don’t Let These Issues Keep You From A Restful Night’s Sleep
Getting a good night’s sleep is the foundation for a healthy and happy life. So why do so many of us have trouble getting a restful 8 hours? Well, it’s often because there are specific issues that are getting in the way of us nodding off and staying asleep. The good news is that by identifying the problem we can also find the most effective solution. Keep reading to find out more on getting a restful night below.
Indigestion

One of the most common things that keep many of us awake at night is indigestion. A burning pain that can make drifting off an impossibility. Happily, there are some simple fixes for this problem which include not eating anything for at least 2 hours before bed, and switching from a diet high in spicey, fatty and sugary food to one that isn’t.

A less than ideal sleep space
Many would suggest a tidy home is conducive to being relaxed. Indeed, this seems to ring particularly true when it comes to our sleep spaces. The reason being that unnecessary clutter can lead to anxiety, which in turn can negatively affect our ability to get to and stay asleep.
Clutter is not the only issue that can be problematic for sleep in the bedroom though, as the wrong colors, temperature, too much light, and even uncomfortable mattress can play havoc with your sleep cycle. To that end, if you are struggling to enjoy a restful night making over your sleep space is a very good idea indeed.

Sleeping late
It seems to make sense to stay in bed for longer if we have had a late night, or on the weekends when we don’t need to get up for work. However, those lie-ins could be the issue that is preventing you from getting good quality sleep.
The reason for this is that the body does best when it’s in a set routine, and sleeping late some days and waking earlier on others can be enough to disrupt this. You have likely experienced this already when getting a cheeky lie-in, as we often feel worse than if we had got up when we first woke and at our normal time.
With that in mind, keeping to a regular sleep schedule is advisable here. Yes, this does mean a set bedtime, and no lie- in, even at the weekend. However, just think about all that extra time you will have to relax in other ways!
The kids are keeping you up

I often think that new parents must look at these sleep suggestions and laugh! After all, it doesn’t matter how good your space or routine is if you have a baby that needs to be fed every few hours.
Indeed, for parents, often the most effective thing to improve the quality of the sleep they get is to get baby into a better routine. Not to say that’s easy, at all, but you can get some advice on how to do in my earlier blog post.
