My youngest was over the moon when he got is first metal detector. I think he was hopeful for finds of ancient treasure. He would daydream about becoming wealthy off his finds regaling in all the things he would then buy. As it is we have mostly found beer bottle caps, ring pulls and rusty tent pegs! How happy that would make my son who was delighted just to find anything.

We might end up being in the headlines for unearthing something amazing. The book is currently priced at £11.99 (reduced from £14.99) and would make a lovely additional Christmas present either for a new detectorist or someone with only basic knowledge that needs more handy hints and tips for success. Hopefully we will now have better luck metal detecting with this informative guide. Even though we have been metal detecting for quite a few years I would still class us as beginners.

A Guide To Metal Detecting outlines what you should be looking at when buying a metal detector, the right equipment to have alongside the metal detector, the correct technique and where best to search. It was inspirational reading about the biggest treasure finds in the UK. It will help my youngest continue to daydream about what he might find one day.

When it came to metal detecting what we lacked in skill we always made up for in enthusiasm. However, I am delighted we have a better idea about what we need to do from now on.

We usually end up metal detecting at a beach. But I think we have been holding the metal detector slightly too high off the ground which impacts the success rate. Also, my youngest might have been going a little too fast and not methodically covering the whole area. Who knows what we managed to miss! I won’t give anything else away because ultimately, I think you will enjoy just purchasing the book and reading it yourself.
