With the staycation boom continuing its worthwhile planning ahead in terms of holidays for 2022. I don’t think we will be venturing abroad for another year yet. However, as a family we are enjoying making the most of what the UK has to offer. You really can’t beat a beach holiday, with lots of ice cream and fish and chips!

Norfolk

You can book train tickets to Kings Lynn which is a great base to explore Norfolk. Check out the deer safari experience at Snettisham Park. It costs £10 for adults and £8 for children. Everyone will love feeding the herd of red deer. Especially if you go in May time and spot the cute calves.

Beach wise Wells-next-the-Sea beach comes highly recommended. Plenty of space to walk, a separate section for dogs, cute little beach huts and decent food and drink options close by. For something light the Beach Café is ideal, their sausage rolls are something to savour or head to French’s Fish and Chips for something more substantial.

Cornwall

Apparently Sennen Cove is one of the most beautiful beaches for families. I can totally see why with its golden white sands. It has a surf school which is ideal for the more active members of the family, or you can just relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity. Don’t leave without seeing the speculator sunsets.

Children will enjoy the rock pools at lower tide, so pack their buckets.

Whilst in the area if you’re looking for something exciting to do consider the Cornwall Underground Adventures. For adults and children aged 10 plus a three hour experience costs £40 per person.

Devon

For us personally the best beach has to be one where you can also go fossil hunting! The boys still fondly remember us doing this. We went to Kilve beach which is ideal for rock pooling, fossil finding and beachcombing. However, I would say if you wanted to combine fossil hunting with a little bit more, I would suggest heading to Lyme Regis instead. Here you can also visit the harbour, wonder round the aquarium or go on a ghost tour!

Whilst here don’t miss The Tunnel Tree Tops attraction. Children (aged 6+) and grownups alike will enjoy this high ropes adventure. It costs £45 for a family ticket for two adults and two children.

Wales

Tenby beach is a firm favourite of ours, it’s been a regular trip out on our Bluestone stays. We always like seeing the old castle perched on the cliffside as we make our leisurely stroll along the sandy beach. This beach is only a short walk from all the facilities of town which is perfect for families. You can also make the trip from here to Caldey Island a haven for monks, if you wanted to add a bit of history to your family holiday.

Scotland

Arbroath beach has seen a lot of development of its leisure facilities with go karts, miniature railway and crazy golf. There is also a paddling pool and play park, so if your children tire of making sandcastles you have plenty to keep them occupied here. Enjoy the views from the clifftop walk and hopefully spot a seal.

Make sure you see the Arbroath Signal Tower for the views and the stories. Especially with it being free entrance.
