After an operation, it is incredibly important to ensure that you receive the necessary care to help you through the next weeks/months/year of development and recovery to so that your body completely heals from the operation you may have just had.

But why is post operative care important and what can you do to help the recovery as much as possible?

It may sound obvious, but you need to listen to the medical professional and the different things they recommend doing to help with the recovery. They know what’s best to help with the recovery with most giving you a plan of what post operative recovery you should investigate.

If you don’t listen to the professionals, then you’re only increasing the length of the recovery process and the chance of further issues occurring.

Also don’t hold anything back and make sure you explain everything as clearly as possible, this will only help the professional more with their diagnostic and recommendations and severely reduce the chance of any kind of medical negligence occurring whether it is pre or post op.

Whilst slight exercise can help, don’t overdo it

After an operation, whilst it is absolutely imperative that you rest and recover, the smallest amount of exercise when it is possible can help considerably. After an operation you won’t be moving as frequently as you’re used to which does have the slight potential to cause blood clots.

By exercising a small amount a day, you are considerably reducing the chance of anything occurring that could cause an issue. But make sure you are not overdoing it! Ask your doctor and they will be able to advise when it’s appropriate to start doing some slight exercise and what are the best things to start with.

Improve your diet by eating healthy

Unsurprisingly, the healthier you eat, the better it is for you post operation. By having a much healthier and balanced diet, it helps you recover much faster so you can ultimately return to your regular self as quickly as possible. It could be best to talk to a dietitian who would be able to help you understand what some of the best food and drink are to avoid when recovering from a surgery. Don’t forget something as simple as chewing sugar free gum can help your recovery.
