So why not holiday at one of the locations on offer here in the UK, instead? You could even take advantage of the motorhome camps close by and travel by campervan, saving money on accommodation and food. Here are some of the best family destinations to consider for your next trip.

Northumberland

Northumberland is famed for its natural beauty and is a popular destination for families looking to holiday in the North of England. With stunning, clean beaches and loads to see and do, it’s ideal for families with children of all ages. Highlights include Alnwick Castle, which featured in the Harry Potter films and the beautiful Northumberland National Park. You can also drive over the causeway to Holy Island.

Yorkshire

Yorkshire has everything you could possibly want in a family holiday destination. From rolling green hills and quaint villages of the Yorkshire Dales to the North York Moors National Park. It even has its own coastline, offering families a wide range of seaside options for their getaway. You can choose from the Victorian hotspot Scarborough, which remains just as popular with families today or the sleepy fishing village of Staithes. Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight has loads to offer families. Located just off the south coast of England, it can be reached in around two hours when travelling by ferry from London. Or for those looking for a quieter pace, there are plenty of historical sites to explore, including castles and Roman ruins. The Isle of Wight is also known as ‘Dinosaur Island’. This is thanks to its rich history of fossil discovery so be sure to visit the Dinosaur Isle Museum. Also don’t miss the chance to go on a fossil hunt of your own! Personally I would have to recommend the Blackgang Chine attraction and the Isle of Wight donkey sanctuary.

London

The UK capital is perfect for a city break with kids as there’s no end of things to see and do. Along with all the sightseeing and shopping opportunities, kids will love visiting the attractions like The Natural History Museum and Madame Tussauds. You can also take them on the London Eye or cruise down the Thames on a boat ride.

Brighton

Brighton is another family-friendly city that’s perfect for a UK break. Whether you want to spend your days at the beach and Brighton Palace Pier or you want to visit The Royal Pavilion or Brighton Toy Museum, there’s plenty to see and do during your stay. If you’re all feeling brave, you could even go to the top of the i360 – the UK’s highest observation tower outside of London!

Scottish Highlands
