5 Indispensable Pieces of Advice for New Parents
The appearance of a baby in the family is a great life revolution, which often causes a lot of questions and doubts. Have you ever heard the phrase, “Having a baby changes everything”? Here are the five tips for new parents that will help you make your life a bit easier with the baby’s appearance. When I had my first child it was a bit of a shock to the system at first, so its well worth getting as much advice for new parents as you can!
1. Build a Support Network
Having a strong support network is essential for any new parent. It can provide guidance and support during difficult times and help parents feel connected when things get overwhelming.

Start by getting in touch with your loved ones. Your family and friends will probably be delighted to offer help or advice. Also, don’t forget about local resources like health professionals, parenting classes, etc. You might also consider joining online communities or forums with other parents who understand what you’re going through and can share experiences that will help you grow into the amazing parent you want to be! No matter how many people are in your network, having support capabilities is essential. Remember: taking care of yourself is the key to being able to take care of others.
2. Stay Calm
You are the parents of a newborn baby who will probably look like a human from another planet for a few days. Eventually, you’ll become able to understand all your baby’s signals. Remember to stay calm because a newborn is like a barometer of feelings: when you feel bad, so does your little one. You are happy, and so is your baby.
3. Feed on Demand
The baby should be latched at least 8-12 times a day (every 1.5-2 hours, at night every 3 hours, counting from the beginning of one feeding to the beginning of the next). It is especially important to latch on to the breast at night because this is when the highest concentration of prolactin, which stimulates lactation, occurs.
If the baby has problems with latching, you will need to train it to latch and stimulate lactation. Here, knowledge of manual pumping or an electric breast pump may be helpful, allowing you to obtain milk for bottle feeding. If difficulties arise, do not hesitate to ask for help from a certified lactation consultant or community midwife. If breastfeeding is not your option, you may want to use the best organic baby formula. My first born was tongue tied and I struggled to breastfeed. So my advice for new parents would be not to panic if things don’t work out how you planned, after all fed is best!
4. Ensure Yourself a Quality Sleep
It happens that in those first days/weeks, you do not feel like leaving the bed with your newborn. Don’t worry it is absolutely fine. It is worth planning everything close to the bed — a place to change the baby, snacks for mom, etc. You have just given birth you deserve some rest and recuperation time. You might find my earlier article about tips to help your baby sleep useful.
When the mom doesn’t breastfeed, it’s worth the father taking the baby for a few hours and the mum taking a nap during that time.
5. Use Rituals

The baby’s evening rituals may include bathing, massage, feeding, and soft music or a lullaby. Many toddlers also love being put to bed with a bedtime story. Performing all these activities regularly and patiently, in the same order, after some time will make your child fall asleep quickly and willingly in his bed.
I hope you have enjoyed reading this advice for new parents. It’s an exciting journey and each stage of parenting will come with its own challenges, but remember you can do this!
