Visiting Lake Garda: Day Three Movieland

To get to Movieland from Garda we organized a taxi. It cost 90 euros in total for a return journey. We could have got a bus part way and then walked which would have been considerably cheaper. But it was a week of extremely hot weather, and it just seemed so much easier and more pleasant having a cool air conditioned taxi get us there instead!

We used taxi service Manuel (+39 346 7477 732) and he was very friendly and helpful and we would recommend him. We would have used him again if needed, but later in the week we used the ferry and bus and had no need for another taxi.

Our tickets to Movieland cost 136 euros for the four of us. We choose to go on a Monday hoping it wouldn’t be as busy. Although we still didn’t quite get round everything we wanted. I think the heat might have also slowed us down.

Getting the Most Out of Movieland

To get the most out of your day at Movieland the best thing to do straight away on arrival is download the showtimes from the QR code on the park map. Then schedule your day around any shows you really want to see. We only saw the U.S. Army Stunt Show which we thoroughly enjoyed. However, I would also have liked to have watched the Overdrive live set. But by the time we checked the QR code we realized we had missed the only showing that day.

The other thing I would say you should do is prioritize the busiest rides first. We should have gone to Kitt SuperJet first and U-571. As it is we went later when it was busier and even ran out of time to do Pangea. It didn’t help that Kitt SuperJet and U-571 close during the U.S. Army Stunt Show and take a while to reopen even when its finished. This is because the ride operators are also in that show and need time to change and catch their breath afterwards! So, it’s good if you can tick off those two rides as early as possible.

Also, we lost a little time when Antares broke down and we had to return when it was fixed!

Some of our favourite parts

Holmes Hotel

My youngest and I braved the Holmes Hotel. The horror house ended up being proper scary! We seemed to be in it for ages which didn’t help. You have to put your arms on the shoulders of the person in front of you and you walk in a line of about six people in semi-darkness with people popping out on you! My son was at the very back until the first person jumped out on us, then I had to swap to the back and have people chase me out of nowhere. I screamed a lot…

I was relieved to leave the house eventually. However, despite all the frights I don’t regret doing it, it was so atmospheric. Fair play to the staff they did an amazing job terrifying us!!!

Lunch

Movieland lunch

We ate at the new Daytona Restaurant. We were drawn in by the fact you are served by cute, automated forklift trucks which is very novel and fun.  Meals cost 22 euros each (three course and a drink) and there was plenty of food, but the best bit was having a different experience of dining. Even though one of our desserts we didn’t manage to get off the forklift truck in time before it was taken back to the kitchen! Although there is a nice staff member nearby to sort out any issues just in case.

Antares

This was probably not the best ride to do straight after lunch! But we still enjoyed the feeling of 3g acceleration and the absence of gravity. It was a bit of a surprise when the seat we were leaned against then moved upwards and our feet left the floor!

Kitt SuperJet

Big queue for this and the ride doesn’t last particularly long. But is it worth it? Yes totally! The ride is very exciting and enjoyable! You have to wear life jackets which are a bit damp smelling, but you feel like you’re in an action film when you set off on the speed boat.

U.S. Army Stunt Show

Stunt show at Movieland

This was very action packed with amazing special effects. There was jet skis, boats, a tank and motorbikes on set. I was impressed with just how much they managed to pack into one show! There was lots of cast members diving off things, explosions, water effects, fighting scenes and guns firing.

U-571

This ride sees you inside a submarine. Not much goes on apart from you get proper drenched!!! So ideally don’t leave this ride until home time unless you want to travel soaking wet. Give yourself time to dry off in the sun earlier in the day. The ride looks great though, very authentic experience.

Movieland closed at 6 so we headed back in our return taxi. We then went to our hotel bar and tried their 5 euro pizzas. For the price it was surprisingly good!

Then it was an early night ready for our day at Verona.
