It’s been quite a busy week. We had my parents golden wedding anniversary, the results came back from my son’s health test and we have continued to experiment with his food diaries. We should be able to stop these now. Instead we will just keep a note about how well the lactase enzyme is performing and what it is enabling him to eat. He has plenty of choice at home, but eating out is a lot more tricky.

Golden Wedding Anniversary

We celebrated my mum and dad’s golden wedding anniversary this week. They treated us all to a delicious meal out to celebrate 50 years being married! That’s quite a stretch and very impressive. We are on 16 years, and it can feel like a slog at times, with ups and downs. I think my parents both deserve a medal!

I had a steak (well done) and chips with a red wine sauce (not pictured). It was nice to all be together including my brother and his girlfriend.

Helicobacter Pylori Results

This week we had the results back from the Helicobacter Pylori breath test and my son was completely fine! Which was a huge relief as it means he doesn’t have stomach bacteria issues. It was a worrying time as it can quickly cause damage to the stomach and small intestine.

So, we are sticking with it being lactose intolerance. The food diaries continued, and we have tested him with fizzy pop and that was fine. So that’s yet another indication it was never acid reflux as carbonated drinks can make that worse. The only thing we have left to test is the vegan ice cream to see if something cold was making his stomach sensitive.

Lactose Enzyme Supplement

This week we tried the lactase enzyme from Holland & Barrett which breaks down lactose. It was just before he ate three slices of very cheesy pizza from the kebab shop! He did feel poorly for 30 minutes the next day, which is unfortunate. However, normally its much longer dealing with that feeling of nausea so the supplement is obviously doing something right! Sometimes he used to feel unwell until as late as 4 or 5 pm, which would make days out in Las Vegas a challenge!

Although I am hopeful he would have completely fine except he also ate a cheesecake later that evening. He thought it was the plant based one for him. But he went for the dairy version not realizing! We didn’t know until the next day, when I spotted that his cheesecakes were untouched. Otherwise we probably would have debated using another of the tablets and he might have been okay. But just 30 minutes of nausea is a win in my eyes! Especially with the last few months we have had.

I think we still need to experiment with the lactase enzyme supplement a bit more before Las Vegas. You can take up to three a day so maybe we will need one for just before each meal to be on the safe side. Then only let him have a later snack if it is completely lactose free.

Coat Rack

We bought a coat rack for our house, usually we just pile them up on the banister. It can look a little messy when we do that. So I am glad we can get into better habits now. I loved that it had drawers too, space for me to hide the mail until I get time to sort it! I was just chucking the mail on top of the radiator, which isn’t a good idea. Especially when we want to feel the full effects of our radiators come winter.

Dog Ice Cream

My furbabies were pleased when I brought home some strawberry, apple & banana dog ice cream with our weekly shop! They had a little pot each and cleared the lot.

Eating Out

I didn’t just have the celebratory meal out this week, I also managed to squeeze cooked breakfast with my husband one morning and I also caught up with a friend for lunch (pictured).
