We had already been to Hoover Dam with Comedy on Deck that we booked through Viator and was very impressed with that tour company. So, this time we went direct to them to do the Grand Canyon West tour.

I was quite fortunate they had spaces as we only booked it a few days before. We had been debating whether to go or not. But my eldest was keen so we added it to the itinerary last minute. I had been when I was 18 but I am glad he encouraged me to re-visit. Even if I was more nervous of the edges this time round!

It was a very early start, but Comedy on Deck like to get to the Grand Canyon early. Just so they can drive their own buses saving you having to use the courtesy ones once onsite.

Omelet House

We went straight to breakfast at the Omelet House. As before we gave our food choices on the bus, so the food was served quickly on arrival.

The choices were:

Ranch Special: Biscuit and gravy a scrambled egg and two pieces of bacon

Canyon Scrambler: Scrambled eggs with ham, mushrooms, and onions, topped with cheese. Served with potato spuds and white toast.

I had this and although it looks a bit messy it was fab, but as always American bread is far too sweet for toast for me! I much prefer British bread.

Good Ol’ Fashioned Pancakes: Fresh buttermilk pancakes with one scrambled egg and one sausage patty.

Eagle Point Toast: Two slices of delicious traditional French toast served with two strips of bacon.

Early Raiser: Banana and raisin oatmeal served with milk, brown sugar, and a portion of our famous banana nut bread.

The Health-Nut Scrambler: A three egg scramble with zucchini, green peppers, mushrooms, onions and jack cheese. Served with our fresh potato spuds.

A tip isn’t included just the meal itself, so don’t forget to leave one.

Back On The Bus

They skipped the photo opportunity on the Mike O’Callaghan – Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge and decided to do it on the way back to get to the Grand Canyon quicker. So, we then carried on the long journey to the Grand Canyon.

I might have sneaked in a quick nap! Plus, we were given some interesting information along the way, about the Joshua trees and a little town we passed, so the journey passed quite pleasantly.

Eagle Point

This area is named after the rock wall of the canyon appears to be an eagle with wings outstretched to guard the canyon.

Skywalk

We had paid extra for my eldest and I to do the Skywalk at Eagle Point. This can get very busy, so our tour guide said to go straight there. We walked on very quickly fortunately at that time in the morning. Some days you can queue for over an hour. You have to put special slips over your shoes to protect the glass.

We said we wanted photographs so they kind of guide you over the glass platform. To be honest I didn’t mind that as it stopped me focusing on my wobbly legs and keep moving forward! It is something else when you look down! We did take a moment at the end to soak it all up before stepping off and finding my husband and youngest. The photo package cost $50 including tax but you did get a few different digital photos, so I was quite happy with the price. You are not allowed to take your own photographs (your phone has to stay in a locker) so paying for their photos is the only way to safeguard those precious memories!

Lunch At The Skyview Restaurant

Then it was off to lunch which can also be very busy, so they advise ticking that off next. We went to the Skyview Restaurant and had food included as part of our tour price. You had choices of salad bowls, chicken tenders or steak or chicken bowls with rice, pinto beans, pico de gallo and shredded cheese.

I went for the Chef Salad (it was massive!). It had diced ham and turkey, cucumbers, shredded cheese, red onion, sliced boiled egg, cherry tomatoes and croutons with a dressing of your choice (Caesar, Italian or Ranch). Such a generous serving.

We had no wait to be seated as we were willing to sit anywhere. If your hoping for a window seat the queue can be very long. As it happens you get a great view anyway and you can always go up and look out the window. But given we had just viewed everything from the Skywalk I just wanted to refuel and have a look at what else we could see before our time was up and it was back on the bus!

Guano Point

Then we were off to Guano Point which has a 360 degree view of the Canyon. Without any fences it’s a bit scary! But it was nice to take in the views and take some more photographs. Some people had got their lunch to go and were eating it here. You didn’t have to eat at the restaurant where we went, they also had a Barbecue truck at Eagle Point.

We had like an hour here which is quite long if your fearful of edges, so we did sit for awhile and paid for a drink. So, if you did get stuck in a queue at Skywalk then a lunch to go to eat here makes good sense. As there are lots of seats available and great views whilst you eat.

When we were back on the bus we were given cards from the Hualapai tripe to thank us for visiting. I thought that was a nice gesture and something the boys now have as a keepsake of their trip.

Mike O’Callaghan – Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge

Then homeward bound via the Mike O’Callaghan – Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. We didn’t get off the bus this time as we had already done this a few days ago. I don’t mind the extra steps and the view, but we needed to ring the horse riding trip to confirm our pickup time. Always check on Viator is any requirements like ring a few days before or send an email. You don’t want to miss out on your tour because you didn’t jump through some loop!

Back On The Strip

Then we were dropped off and tips given out. Suggested tip was provided $10 per person for both the tour guide and the driver, so $80 lighter for our group of four. But it was such a lovely day out at the Grand Canyon so it was well worth it. The guide Jonny and driver Charles kept everyone on track, and everything went smoothly thanks to them and their suggestions.

We went to O’sheas so we could try the famous Baileys Milkshake! It was gorgeous, I would highly recommend getting one. I think it was something like $50 for two without a tip. I am grateful I was a member of a few Vegas groups of Facebook otherwise I might have missed out on this delicacy.

The Kitchen

We ate dinner back at our Virgin hotel. We liked the booth seating at the Kitchen at Commons Club, the friendly servers and the menu. It was reasonably priced and tasty. We liked it so much we end up making a second visit later in our stay.

So, that was another busy day ticked off on our Las Vegas holiday!
