Margarita, Mexico

Margarita

Margarita is one of my all-time favourite drinks. It is such a refreshing cocktail when blended with ice. We have been having gorgeous weather here lately, so this is one way to cool off in style! You will need tequila, triple sec, and lime juice then some salt to add to the rim of the glass. Serve with a wedge of lime and enjoy! It is such a popular drink in Mexico, so perhaps wear a sombrero when drinking to get into character! Close your eyes and pretend to be on holiday.

Barcardi, Cuba

rum lime

If you want to try a cocktail using Barcardi then the Cuba Libre will be the drink for you! Mix their rum with cola and lime juice in a long glass. Add plenty of ice and garnish with lime. Although we often associate Barcardi with Cuba they do not actually have production facilities there! Still the Cuba Libre is an extremely popular drink on the island! Although I will not be indulging in a Cuban cigar to compliment my drink!

Kiwi Colada, Hawaii

kiwi cocktail

We have been trying a fruit and vegetable delivery in lockdown and it always comes with loads of kiwi! Now I have found the perfect use for them in this tropical cocktail. You will need crushed ice, light rum, Midori liqueur (it is a melon liqueur), cream of coconut, 5 kiwi fruit and pineapple juice. Follow this Kiwi Colada recipe to make up this tangy green cocktail which counts towards your five a day!

Tequila Sunrise, California

tequila sunrise

This drink takes me back to holidays in Spain where it seemed to be a cocktail staple! Stock up with orange juice, tequila, and grenadine. Use an orange slice and a cherry to decorate. Delish have a tequila sunrise recipe you can try. I love how the colour resembles a sunrise.

Daiquiri, Cuba

cocktail

You do not need many ingredients to enjoy a daiquiri. White rum, lime juice and sugar that is all, plus ice. But just because it can be considered a basic cocktail does not make it any less enjoyable. It was a favourite drink of writer Ernest Hemingway. There are variants of the cocktail, I would be tempted to try a banana daiquiri!

Pina Colada, Puerto Rico

pina colada

The Pina Colada is considered the national drink of Puerto Rico. It was invented here, and the sweet tropical drink is still immensely popular. It has a few different origin stories with different people having claimed to have first created the signature drink. To make the most of the experience serve out of a scooped-out pineapple! For this fruity drink you will need rum, cream of coconut, heavy cream, and pineapple juice all blended before being pour over ice.

Macua, Nicaragua

cocktail making

Named after the tropical bird from the island. This cocktail needs quite a few ingredients, rum, guava juice, orange juice, lemon juice and syrup (made from sugar and water). It is still worth trying the Macua which is considered the national drink of Nicaragua. You get the sweetness of the guava with the sourness of the lemons.

Bay Breeze, Hawaii

cranberry bay breeze

Vodka, cranberry juice, and pineapple juice make up the ingredients of the Bay Breeze. This cocktail goes down a little too easily, so after a few do not be surprised if you are wearing a grass skirt, a seashell bra and dancing the hula! You can also make a Sea Breeze by swapping the pineapple for grapefruit juice.

Rum Punch, Bahamas

rum punch

For this fruity cocktail you need orange Campari, light rum and equal measures of orange juice and pineapple juice. Campari is an Italian herbal liquor which is quite bitter but has a fab colour ideal for cocktail making. The Rum Punch will help you feel like your on holiday in the Bahamas.

Paloma, Mexico

Caribbean cocktails

The Paloma is considered the most popular cocktail in Mexico. You will need grapefruit juice, fresh lime juice, sugar, tequila, and club soda. It is bubbly, salty, and sweet and considered more interesting than the margarita. Personally, I will always be a margarita girl! But I can see that it has its merits.

Which of these Caribbean cocktails would be your favourite?
