Garden Trends in 2018: Wabi-sabi and Re-wilding
According to Rattan direct and their blog post about garden trends in 2018 health and wellbeing are at the forefront of everyone’s plans. I like the sound of that, being outdoors is very beneficial, put sometimes you just look around and see how much you need to do. Hopefully these ideas will help you fall in love with your garden all over again.
Wabi-sabi
Fortunately, if you follow this principal of having a “rustic” garden it will lighten the load of what you need to do. It’s all about achieving a balance with nature, so a couple of weeds can fit in quite nicely. This is ideal if you’re a busy person and don’t have as much time to spend maintaining it. With Wabi-sabi you appreciate the garden’s imperfections. Although I am assuming not everyone would feel comfortable embracing this trend. Let’s be honest some gardeners break out into a sweet if they see as much as one dandelion anywhere near there lawn, wheras I personally think dandelions are beautiful and even have them as wall art in my living room.
I must be ahead of my time as my garden is already very rustic! So, if anyone asks I am just following the trends! Phew finally have a decent excuse.
Bring the Outdoors In
For a long time, we have known about the benefits of having plants inside the house. But we haven’t always listened to that advice. I don’t have a great track history with plants but if they will help me sleep better and the kids concentrate on their studies sign me up! I will remember to care for my new potted friends!
Making the most of small gardens
Space is a premium so its important to be creative when you have a tiny garden to show it in its best light. Hanging plants won’t use up any of the limited floor space. Planters have become more imaginative fitting in between balconies, walls and fences meaning you have much more options than previously.
Re-wilding
Less Wabi-sabi and more about making your garden a practical space. Think edible with herbs, vegetables and fruits to enjoy. Only using natural products to control pests and planting pretty wildflowers. You are putting in lots of effort here its not literally a wild garden, its about making a workable garden.
The very latest trend is people making their own natural dyes. I am really impressed with how much you can yield from a well thought out garden.
Will you be following any of these garden trends in 2018?
