(Gifted) I am a little bit sad that this is our last National Geographic review post.  The kids have had such a lovely time trying out all their products.  We have had a Build Your Own Volcano Kit, Break Open 2 Geodes, Sea Monkeys and Crystal Growing, more Dig Kits and Mini Dig Kits.  Each set has kept the kids occupied and been very educational.

Our last delivery included the Real Bug and Dino Fossil Dig Kit and an Ultimate Play Sand set.  Which was a wonderful way to spend our Sunday morning.

Real Bug Dig Kit

I think the Real Bug Dig Kit might be my favourite out of all our reviews.  I couldn’t get over the little bug specimens you find.  My youngest has them proudly on display in his room.  He had a fortune beetle, spiny spider and scorpion.  They look very impressive.

The learning guide was a handy resource too.  Very enlightening!  Although I was a bit creeped out that a single pair of house flies could produce 191,000,000,000,000,000,000 descendants in just six months if each egg hatched and each insect survived!  Yikes.  Imagine that…

We all learnt so much reading through the booklet.  Insects play a valuable role in the world.  They pollinate crops, provide us with honey and silk and break down dead plant matter.

Dino Fossil Dig Kit

This was another interesting set.  My eldest quickly claimed it as he has a small collection of fossils so wanted to add to it.  It had a tooth, bone and poo to dig out and find.  The sets come with the tools to make digging easier, a little brush to get rid of the dust on your specimens and a magnifying glass to see them more clearly.

The Dino Fossil learning guide was another good read.  Plenty of information about discovering dinosaurs and what fossils are.  It also had a section on how they are made and how paleontologists work and what fossils can tell us.  We also learnt that the smallest dinosaurs were not much bigger than pigeons!

Ultimate Play Sand

This was lots of fun for my youngest.  He enjoyed using the six provided molds making little castles and buildings.  The play sand is great as it doesn’t dry out, so you can play with it for ages.  It’s very pliable and nice to play with.
