Projects are on hold at the moment, as we are full steam ahead for Christmas.  But I do like to think about what renovation plans we have ahead of us for next year.  2019 saw our master bedroom finally have an en-suite added.  It’s been lovely not having to go downstairs every time we need the bathroom!  Especially once we are settled in for the night!  We also had a log burner fitted which was quite an expensive project.  Although its so lovely basking in the heat it generates, it makes our dining room more inviting.

Given the choice I would always pick holidays over making more renovation plans.  But my husband is the sensible one and keeps me grounded fortunately!  The house would never be finished otherwise.  We still have so much to do!  It sometimes helps to jot down a few plans, so I can keep myself on track and not daydream about holidays all the time.

Here are a few possibilities.

Multifamily Renovations

My ageing parents might eventually need to come and live with us. In that case I would need to look at what multifamily renovations our house would benefit from. We could probably do with adding a separate annex on the side of the house so they can still have a bit of independence and freedom. Going to a firm that has experience in multifamily projects would help everything go more smoothly.

Kitchen

Sadly, we cannot afford to have our kitchen completely refitted next year.  However, I would like to make some changes to give it a bit of a lift!  I would love glass splashbacks in the kitchen.  Currently we have lots of tiles in the kitchen and they are difficult to keep clean.  A quick wipe and glass splashbacks come up much cleaner.  With tiles the grout in between them soon starts to look dirty and discoloured.  The kitchen also badly needs new flooring.  The anti-slip lino they put in is horrible, it looks disgusting and never comes up clean.  I would love some dark slate laminate.

Staircase

Our staircase is quite dark and gloomy!  There are two windows one underneath the stairs and one halfway up, but the current set up doesn’t make the most of them.  If we used toughened glass instead of wood, it could flood the area with light.  Our staircase will need replacing at some point.  You can see underneath that there are bigger cracks appearing in the plaster!  I try not to despair when I see things like this but instead focus on how beautiful it could look when its changed.

Dining Room

Our log burner is wonderful and a real asset to the dining room.  But we still have so much more to do in there.  The other walls need to be boxed in and skimmed.  Also, we need to replace the awful tired flooring and paint or replace the pink radiator!  Not sure what the precious owners were thinking painting that pink!

Bathroom

The upstairs family bathroom needs to be fitted at some point!  Currently we all make the most of our en-suite.  But as the boys get older it really won’t be practical.  My husband and I disagree over whether this room will get a bath or not.  I want one in the downstairs bathroom only, so the kids have more space in their bathroom upstairs.  We shall have to see who gets their way!

Add Some Colour

Our house is very magnolia!  I am wondering if 2020 might see us experiment with colour to add more personality to our house!

When you tot up the costs for our renovation plans it does start to mount up!  It does sometimes feel like we have bitten off more than we can chew with this house.  But looking back at the pictures and seeing how far certain rooms have come it gives me the drive to keep going!
