Week 26 of 2020: Sea Glass and Friends
This week has been a nice change. We have managed to meet up with friends twice for social distanced walks. It did the boys and myself a world of good to be able to chat with other people face to face. Although one of our walks was 12 miles which was a bit ambitious. We did say on the way back we would attempt something slightly less challenging next time! It was a very hot day too and I think we should have packed even more drinks!
Feeling rather happy with myself here as we had done all the steep bits of the walk and I knew the way home would be easier!
Sea Glass
We enjoyed collecting some sea glass on one of our walks. Something we have never done before, it is amazing what you can find if you know where to look. Apparently, it can take 7 to 10 years for sea glass to have those perceptible smooth edges.
We might have to try a craft project using our finds. I have seen some beautiful framed artwork online, where they used different coloured sea glass to make a heart. Fortunately, we did collect a nice mix of different colours, although you still end up with quite a lot of clear glass too.
Whilst I was looking up sea glass uses, we also found many people selling it! This interested the boys even more. They have watched so many episodes of the Apprentice they are always looking for ways to make a quick buck! Personally, I hope they decide to keep them as little treasures, a tangible memory of lockdown.
This little lot is just what my youngest collected. We still have plenty more I need to remove from various pockets and my rucksack. I loosely shaped it into a heart for the picture, but it does show how pretty sea glass can look.
Home School
This week we have not done any mad experiments yet, sorry for those who had enjoyed reading about them! Head back to week 25 if you missed the last lot of experiments. I am so pleased that Susan joined in with the lava lamp from week 22.
We did have an experiment planned, but I didn’t have any cotton buds. So that will have to be covered after they arrive. However we are still ticking along completing tasks, but the emphasis is on much more written work this week.
Returning To School
Next week my boys actually have a day each of school which is quite exciting! So, we need to get ourselves organised for that. My eldest has grown a fair bit in lockdown so he needed new school trousers. Luckily, I managed to order a pair to arrive just in time, with more on the way for September! I have also ordered some face masks just in case they wanted to use them. I think I am quite late buying face masks, I know my friend Simone from Sim’s Life had some organised a while back. She is definitely the more practical of the pair of us!
We are visiting a friend today in their garden so hoping the weather holds!

So many people now have children going back to school for odd days. We only have school if you”ve a reason to be back (can’t do work at home if you’re a school year that isn’t back), I feel quite left out as N won’t be back til Sept.
Being outdoors can be wonderful. As children I grew up in a family who could, and did make use of the outdoors.
You are certainly the more organised of the two of us! 😉
A 12 mile ramble would have been ace and the countryside around you is absolutely gorgeous, I bet you happened upon places you never even knew about! OH MY DAYS!!!!! I need to fill you in on Geocaching, I bet it is ace around you!!!!
Such a fab week for you all and glad you got to socialize whilst distancing, it’s great to see people face to face and have a catch up! I still cannot believe the boys are only in school one day each, but it’s a break for them… and you!
The sea glass is amazing and I am loving your idea of making some art with it, it looks beautiful in a heart shape! Kudos to the boys entrepreneurial side… this time next year, they could be millionaires! 😉 Sim xx

I’ve noticed face masks have now come down in price, I’ve been using a bandana when I need one. I love the sea glass and the rough heart shape looks fab. hope the boys back to school goes well
The sea glass looks absolutely beautiful! I have never seen or picked one but would love to collect it next time we are close by. Making an artwork with it and framing it will be such a great idea.
Only one of our kids have gone back so far, she enjoys it but its a very different place currently, the sea glass looks lovely.

Sea glass can be really pretty. You never know what you may stumble across while strolling across the beach!
SEaglass is really pretty, I’ve collected it myself in the past from beaches. You have a nice collection of shapes and colours.

The sea glass is beautiful! I am ashamed to admit I never knew that was even a thing. It would be stunning to make some artwork with for the garden! My son was meant to be returning to school for 2 days a week but they have decided to slow down the returning of children so we have yet to get a start date for him, I am starting to wonder whether he will be going back before September now.
I love that you did a 12 mile walk for sure, we often do around 24 miles and it makes such a difference to your mind set x

Back to school eh? No sign of that here yet. It’s a good point about the uniform as it probably won’t fit. I guess it will be back to school stuff soon. The sea glass looks amazing – I’ve never really seen it. Will have to find out where to look from it from you.

Oh, the sea glass is gorgeous! I’d love to pick some as well, but the beach we usually visit, while staying in Cornwall, doesn’t have any.
