Toys To Keep Your Children Entertained & Learning Over The Summer

#AD The summer holidays are finally here! Some of you might be excited. Whilst others could be feeling a little apprehensive. You could be wondering how you will keep your children entertained for such a long stretch. On top of that you might want to continue their learning over the summer break but don’t know where to start. So, I thought I would give a few suggestions for toys and games that are both fun and educational to give you a helping hand. I also have a competition available so do keep on reading until the end of this article! You can find lots of gift suggestions for children on the Wicked Uncle website. I have included a few of my favourite below. Hopefully then your children can learn something new over the holidays.

Master Chess Playing

Chess is a great game to develop problem solving skills, critical thinking and logic. It is also a good game to help them build their concentration. Young children can be easily distracted but chess keeps them focused. A good way to introduce your child to the game is through the Chess Teacher board (£15.95). It is a top seller on the Wicked Uncle website and I am not surprised. Each piece has the name and directions written on them which makes it much easier to understand how to play.

Improve Their General Knowledge

Have you seen Quizzie (£17.95) on the Wicked Uncle website yet? It makes quizzes fun and exciting so it’s a good way to help your children brush up on their general knowledge and trivia. You can pre-record up to five questions with yes and no answers and then if your child gets the question wrong, they get squirted with water! Naturally they will think that’s hilarious! Therefore, it will keep them motivated to answer quiz questions.  Some questions you could try could include are “was the first song ever sung in space “Happy Birthday”?” (the answer is yes, just in case you’re wondering!) and “Do mice have more bones than humans?” (again yes).

Build Their IQ

You can do this with a product like the IQ Puzzler Pro – 2D and 3D Brain Teaser (£10.95). It helps test your skills and build up your IQ. The 120 challenges will improve their problem solving abilities. Environment plays a big part in terms of our child’s intelligence so games like this can be good steppingstones for future development.

Learn Magic Tricks

Teaching your children how to do magic tricks has been shown to improve their confidence and self-esteem. Confidence can play a huge part on learning, because if you think you can do something you probably will. If you don’t believe in yourself then your usually destined not to perform as well. With that in mind it might be worthwhile picking up Marvin’s Treasured Magic Tricks set (£34.95) or for younger children you could try My First Magic Show Case For Young Magicians (£21.95).

Complete a Jigsaw

Jigsaw to Keep Your Children Entertained

Completing jigsaws have lots of benefits. For example it can develop hand eye coordination, fine motor skills and their attention span. Children usually concentrate quietly when focused on getting the puzzle to slot together. Plus, they have that rewarding sense of achievement when its finished which gives them a real boost. If your children love dinosaurs, why not get the T-Rex Shaped Jigsaw (£19.95).
