The Benefits Of Getting Your Child A Scooter
There are so many benefits to getting your child a scooter. I have included a few of them below. My two had scooters from a young age, so I have seen firsthand how much they helped my boys. You can even get toddler scooters nowadays, so kids can start their scooting journey very early on.
Just make sure you always tell your child about possible dangers such as the road or that they might take longer to slow down if it’s been raining. Check they are wearing appropriate footwear and a helmet and know how to stop if they need too! Also make sure they are mindful of pets and pedestrians.
Balance and Co-ordination
Riding any scooters will help improve balance and co-ordination. As children navigate bumpy roads, bends, slopes and inclines they will need to adjust their balance to stay rooted on their scooter.
They will improve their co-ordination even more in the case of stunt scooters. Practising tricks and jumping off ramps will put them in more challenging scooting situations. They can start off with bunny hops and progress to the tail grab as your balance improves and confidence grows.
Encourage Them Outdoors
My children were never overly impressed when I suggested a walk. But when I mentioned bringing my Childrens Scooters, they were always enthusiastic to head outdoors. On walks they would get tired very quickly, but they would happily scoot for hours.
Physical Exercise
Scooting is a great form of physical exercise. Even better it’s really easy to squeeze into your children’s schedules as they can scoot to school or other activities. Your children will have stronger leg muscles from propelling themselves forwards. Just make sure they don’t only use one dominate leg to scoot with. Ideally get them into the habit of switching their support leg to exercise both.

Data has shown that 26% of 10-11 year olds are obese or severely obese. It’s a scary statistic. So, it’s a good idea to purchase a scooter for your child to help them get moving more.
Better For The Environment
Leaving the car at home and scooting to school is so much better for the environment. Pollution causes 40,000 avoidable deaths a year and scooting is sustainable transport for the whole family.
Additionally, children in a car are exposed to three times as much pollution as walking or scooting. That’s something I hadn’t realized either. So not only is it better for the environment its also better for your child’s health.
Improved Wellbeing
It’s beneficial for children’s wellbeing making their way to school on a scooter. They might see other friends to talk too and have the advantage of fresh air and natural light. Natural light can help with eye strain something many children deal with from so much time doing screen based activities. It also helps us product Vitamin D and helps with our sleeping patterns.
Road Awareness
Those children who have a scooter will have better road awareness skills. Such as knowing to avoid the kerb edge, the hazards of driveways and the danger of blind corners. They will also make a point of heading to a formal crossing point to safely navigate the road. It’s a good idea to teach your child STOP, LOOK and LISTEN too. Then they will be even more careful when out on their scooting adventures.
Also make sure they are aware of potential distractions when scooting. They should not be looking at their mobile phone or playing loud music so they cannot hear traffic sounds.
Concentration Levels
By scooting to school your child will have improved concentration levels. Research indicates children will be more focused for up to four hours. That will give their education a big boost, especially if they are normally easily distracted at school.
In Conclusion
As you can see scooters really do offer so much for our children. If you’re wondering what to get the children for their next birthday or Christmas present seriously consider a scooter. I don’t think it’s a purchase you will ever regret. Just make sure you buy all the necessary safety equipment too, as it will give you peace of mind. If your child is a little unsteady pick a very stable scooter until their balance improves.
