This is our third visit here as Bluestone bloggers and I never tire of the place. Our accommodation at the Grassholm Lodge was very comfortable indeed; it helped us settle in quickly. I think with a fleeting weekend break like we had you want to relax and unwind as fast as possible to get the most out of your break and Bluestone really made that possible. The kitchen was well equipped; the showers were powerful with plenty of hot water and the beds ensured a restful night. We visited with my parents too, but our lodge was very spacious so we were never under each other’s feet.

We were spoilt with a lovely view of the resort, we could watch rabbits playfully hopping along the grass and we also had one rather determined seagull that would knock with his beak for attention (and scraps!) on the patio door! The boys and I found him quite entertaining to watch but we never rewarded him with food (much to his disappointment!).

We made the most of the free-range fun, feeding the ducks around the lake and enjoying the nature walk, spotting some wildlife with the baby frog being a highlight. Bluestone is a sizeable area to roam, ideal to wear children out and keep them happily occupied.

Blue Lagoon

The boys liked returning to the Blue Lagoon for a swim. The water is the most perfect temperature so even when you head outside in the lazy river you don’t feel cold. Between 9am – 12pm its open exclusively to Bluestone guests so that’s a good time to head there before it gets too busy. Lockers are a £1 and there were ample changing facilities when we arrived at 10am.

The Adventure Centre

The Adventure Centre has lots to offer and is a great all weather attraction. One of the boys favourite things to do as bluestone bloggers is enjoying a complimentary game of mini golf followed by a quick go on the bouncy castle and of course exploring the adventure playground. There are plenty of seats dotted around if you fancy a rest whilst your children burn off some energy!

The boys enjoyed the 4×4 Safari driving (£19 each), the course offered a few different challenges.

However I do think if we return next year with youngest turning eight we would try activities over at the tournament field instead. They seem to be offering a lot more for that age group and up now.  They would love the chance of being medieval warriors. Perhaps that’s why we ended up picking out the day trip we did!

Castell Henllys

We ventured out to Castell Henllys an iron age hill fort which was about a 40 minute drive away. The entrance cost was £13.50 for the four of us. I thought that it was very reasonable as the boys learnt a lot from our visit. Although I think some facts will stay with them longer than others! Especially the ones about the uses for recycled wee! They then had their faces painted like brave warriors and got to brandish a sword before trying their hand at making flour, all in all a worthwhile attraction.

There is plenty more we would love to see in the area and Bluestone is a great base to explore. I really hope we get the opportunity to be bluestone bloggers again soon.
